Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course. – George

Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Fun Fact: Dan J. Sullivan registered as a Republican last December, after his previous party, the right-wing, libertarian Alaskan Independence Party, was dissolved.

I will point out that English proficiency was already required to obtain a commercial license in any state. The test must be taken in English, and language interpreters have been banned from the test since the Obama Administration.

Four days before yesterday’s ICE shooting in the Bronx, Judge Gary Brown of EDNY (Trump apptee) listed 7 outrages in an ICE case before him, including evasive & apparently perjurious testimony, post-hoc sworn arrest warrant containing false info, woeful lack of training … 1/2

To add context to this, Chestnut Blight kills the trees before they reach maturity. The trees in this particular grove have a rare resistance to the blight that allows them to survive long enough to produce seeds.

Kasey Gifford@kaseygifford.bsky.social

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. The alarmists have yet to be wrong 😕🇺🇸

"The governor also requested the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to waive federal ultra-low sulfur diesel requirements to boost supply." I'm not sure I can fully express how badly this is likely to backfire. Modern diesels can't handle anything but ULSD. www.texastribune.org/2026/09/28/t...

texastribune.orgAbbott declares disaster over high diesel prices in TexasMonday marks seven months since the U.S.-Iran war began, which has restricted oil and gas exports from the Middle East, raising prices ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

So, fun little thing I discovered regarding Audible. If you have an old title that has since been republished and relisted, you can't just play the old version on the app. There's no button to start playing. The workaround is to add it to a custom list and access it from there.

Anyways, this is genuinely the funniest chart in the world because it shows Jill Stein's twitter use spikes every four years and only during years where there's a federal election so if she's breaking her silence now *someone* is panicking

Florida has 22 million people. Peak ACA enrollment was 4.5 million. He has his numbers completely backwards.

Dr Oz: "There are 5 times more people in parts of Obamacare in Florida than live in the state. It's impossible More than a third of people on Obamacare have never used the insurance policy once. If you were gonna pay your hard-earned money to buy insurance, would you ever use it? The answer is yes"

It is worth pointing out that there are, in fact, two triumphal arches in Washington D.C. One dedicated to the Atlantic Theatre of WWII, the other dedicated to the Pacific. In fact, they literally anchor the far side of the reflecting pool from the Lincoln Memorial:

NEW: ICE shooting in Austin. Scant details at this time.

Congressman Greg Casar@repcasar.bsky.social

The horror has come to our city: ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning. As the facts emerge, I am demanding a full, independent investigation, immediate release of the body camera footage, and accountability for any ICE officer who broke the law.

In its newest court filing, ABC TV says their first amendment rights are violated by Trump’s FCC probe of ABC affiliates What’s more, they say it’s crystal clear. They cite Trump’s own statements (Usually such cases require inferences. But not in this case. They argue)

Trump just posted that the Kennedy Center is “doomed,” and “isn’t that too bad?” He says his handpicked board is meeting today and “it will be interesting to see what happens.” He’s going to tear down the Kennedy Center because he’s not allowed to put his name on it, isn’t he

How not surprising that a president who acts like a petty mob boss is holding one of our nation’s treasured institutions hostage until we meet his conditions—that is, putting his stupid name on the building. I say we just put it in mothballs until he is gone.

both Jon Ossoff and Chris Van Hollen have been opposed by AIPAC and backed by the much less awful J Street, but Ossoff is Jewish while Van Hollen isn’t so guess who gets the Evil Red Monochrome background

Sam@samd.bsky.social

this post really pisses me off for a few reasons: 1. People like Zenkus who treat the anti-fascist coalition as a murder-suicide pact are generally narcissistic idiots 2. Ossoff has voted against arms transfers to Israel and his donations are from J Street, which is very different from AIPAC

Fun Fact: In 1999, trucking companies pegged the price of fuel at about $1.25 per gallon and began levying a surcharge to compensate for fuel prices. For every $0.06/gallon that the price goes up, they charge an extra $0.01/mile. The current surcharge is about $0.70/mile ($700 for a 1,000 mile run).

this is good right
