A serious team should never find itself in OT against the Nets, but I LOVED the Derrick White drive to the rim late in the 4th, and the fact that Tatum used all the time available to him to get within 15 feet for the game winner

Update: Tatum has been awesome the last two games. A lot of jumpers made, but also plenty of hard drives inside that make me feel optimistic.

My #1 topic of interest / concern this season: Is Jayson Tatum, fully recovered post-injury, still a top tier player? Game 1 watch: 5-18 from the field, 0-6 from three so far. No big deal! We're just getting started.

This game is a good data point for the people that believe the answer to the late game woes is simply that the Celtics will finally attack the rim

Oh God reading this feels so good just pretending for a second what it would be like in a ... different ... context

I'm gonna keep waiting for the big Hugo game until it comes Realistically this feels like a good time for Payton to have a big one. Hasn't really gone off yet

By the way... and also worthy of note: the Celtics' floor is the only one in the NBA allowed to be made of red oak. (All others are maple.) Robbins Sports Surfaces of Cincinnati built this one.

Brand new floor at the Garden this season. But tradition is important to the Celtics, so they've once again kept the bolts -- even though they aren't functional. (The boards fit together in sort of a tongue-and-groove manner.) The floor coating fills in the bolt gap, so it's all smooth.

Seeing the Nets court with actual colors is a strong reminder of how that franchise is actively sabotaging their ability to establish a fun and entertaining brand

Common joke about lawyers is that they lie all the time. In actuality what you learn to do as a lawyer is tell the truth strategically. I think about that distinction a lot when NBA rumor shit hits and stories seem contradictory. Lotta agents & front office people went to law school.

Almost certainly the context here is "if you don't give me the max extension, trade me" and it's obvious the team (a) knew a long time ago they weren't going to do that (b) knew Jaylen was going to want out as soon as they told him that

Brian Scalabrine says Jaylen Brown demanded a trade from the Celtics. "My understanding is he demanded a trade. Jaylen Brown lives in his own reality. He gave a list of demands and said if you don’t do this, trade me… how is that Tatum’s fault?" (via SiriusXM NBA Radio)

🧵 Matt Yglesias is one of the biggest reasons the Democratic Party leadership is so feckless, cowardly, and lazy. I'm not exaggerating. Yglesias is often a featured speaker at private Democratic Party events, despite almost always being wrong. Let's discuss...

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

I'm going to post this knowing the Knicks will probably not lose a game for two straight months at some point: The needle is pointing toward "the title run was lightning in a bottle"

I wonder how much persuading Matty thinks his entire body of work has a accomplished

For the record, I do not reject that idea because I am not a total moron. Of course public opinion changes and people can be persuaded of things.

A few years ago when the Pats were cheeks and Mac Jones was getting overtaken by career third string Bailey Zappe, I decided all I wanted was for the Pats to have a talented young QB and an offense that could make plays and go up and down. Even if the defense stank. This game is right on the money

Not doubting my (regular season) predictions about the Sixers based on two games, but if you're a Sixers fan you've gotta feel very good about what they've shown with all of their top guys available in the first two games against two opponents that are gonna be good this year.

Pats defense has had a million injuries so I'm neither surprised nor upset about it, but they simply can't keep up with this Bears team.

That's totally on Maye and the throw. He knew that defender was there, that ball needs to go over and past the receiver to even try it, and it was right to the defender.

I feel that we can say with some confidence that whatever else he is good at, Drake Maye is really not good at reading pass coverage in the red zone

I always think that there's this bind the dem party in particular has been in since, let's say Clinton, where the political instinct is to affirm American values in a way that cuts against leftier approaches in order to appeal to the middle. As a political instinct it certainly had its day but
