the year is 2030 and i no longer consume anything that isn't personalized to me. every game, every book, every movie extends to the limits of my own imagination and no further. i haven't been surprised in five years. i cry softly, in bewilderment, if i see a word i don't know

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

It wasn't the first thing to really scare me, that was Big Bird Goes to Japan. But the most memorable is the absolute fever dream that is ... Well. Really the entirety of The Adventures of Mark Twain. But especially the part where they meet Satan.

THUS SPAKE BOB

bobsbbq3.bsky.social@bobsbbq3.bsky.social

Bob here. I still have the original pencil drawing I did of the pig. Scanned it and sent it to my daughter who converted it to the logo with photoshop. My goal was to make it simple and recognizable. (Guess it worked out)

Things I was frightened of as a child: The upstairs of my house which was very much like the upstairs in the Avi book Something Upstairs which I read roughly a million times. The basement. My dad made up "the basement monster" thinking this would help somehow? It didn't. My mom was not amused. 😆

Things I was frightened of as a child: The Sharp Tooth from Land Before Time The Ocean The closet door, in the room in the house where I first saw a shadow person, which was a yawning pit when left open but still infinitely preferable to seeing the things in the mirrored doors when it was closed.

The problem with the interaction between Darwin and my OCD is that if he has any reason to actually BE miserable, I will immediately decide that for the first time in his life, his "weight of the world" expression is actually because he is very sad and not just because that is his face.

He went to the vet today. As far as Darwin is concerned, the vet is fucking DISNEYLAND. It is his favorite place on earth. I am not being sarcastic. My dog has to be sedated for the vet because it is the one place where he cannot chill even a little bit for even a second.

I have a smart watch, and I clocked my highest steps day ever a few days ago without even leaving my own property because of taking Darwin out every hour or so and then chasing him around the backyard to try and clean him up.

The common guidance for how much water to drink overshoots what's necessary for most people and situations. But in addition to reasonable questions about the motivation for this article, a significant portion of the population is now taking a GLP-1.

You don’t need to make drinking water a part-time job since too much of it doesn’t have any real health benefit. 🔗: on.wsj.com/4hUsBWd

Sometimes evidence based guidance changes, and telling people they don't need to drink more than their body indicates via thirst is dangerous advice for >11% of the population of the US. Article is paywalled & I'm not giving them a dime to read it, but it's important information either way.

In addition to making your stomach feel full longer, there's also some evidence it actively suppresses thirst signals. I take a GLP-1 for an inflammatory skin condition and have to use some ridiculous contingencies to make sure I don't get clinically, dangerously dehydrated.

In an "I told you so" that I wish I wasn't dealing with ... My insurance has stopped covering GLP-1s for the purpose of weight loss and since they have been attributing all the other benefits to weight loss, I am now paying out of pocket so that I won't go back to having non-stop painful abscesses.

My medical record says I'm on them for "morbid obesity" because that was the only way to get insurance to cover it.

Truly one of the most bizarre interactions I've ever had. Doing nothing for my aversion to opening the door if I'm not expecting anyone and I'm home alone.

Trick of the light@trickofthelight.bsky.social

Someone shilling for AI ignored my no solicitors sign and when I didn't answer my door he fully--I shit you not--decided to take a nap flat on his back in front of my door. Found him there like 30-40 minutes later. Had to shake him awake. He literally told me he decided to take a quick nap.

This is far from a unique experience, but it still boils my blood when I think about it I went to the doctor scared and worried because I was losing weight at a rapid rate without any effort at all. When I stepped on the scale the doctor goes "Congratulations!"

Heather Hill@rollin-academic.bsky.social

A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"

And for the finisher, after describing my symptoms of being so exhausted that any more than about 5 minutes on my feet left me shaking and nauseous, she told me it was because I was fat and I needed to lose weight.
