In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).

This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

The “something” in question was the workers themselves deciding by 1966 that they no longer wanted New Dealer welfare capitalism if it meant black Americans would benefit from it while anti-war protesters were free to burn the flag

Waldo@waldo42.bsky.social

Something happened in the 70's that crystallized politics (and many other topics) into a new set of assumptions and priors. It gave rise to Reaganism and completely crushed New Deal Socialism; Dems that eventually reemerged were and still are centrists scared of their own shadows.

There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters: 1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence 2. They want to the GOP to win

This undersells how hard the Judiciary Dems are swinging here

FactPost@factpostnews.bsky.social

House Judiciary Democrats have uncovered reports alleging Trump was an "active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse of young women in the mid-to-late 1990s."

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

I was kinda pondering this the other day, there’s really quite something about how all the Soros stuff was astroturfed to provide a permission structure for creating their own international patronage networks that could be considered a form of globalism

We're getting on with the job of delivering Australia's energy transition.  And we're doing it by investing in the cheapest form of energy and putting downward pressure on power prices.

This plus Donald Trump winning the 2024 Republican Party primary while banned from television and slumped in the courthouse at his criminal trial ought to put to bed the idea that politics is just top down propaganda and not the active participation of a citizenry with the agency to shape our future

Thinking about slowly ruining a marriage because one bitch will skip expensive dinners with her girlfriend to tonguefuck my ass in my apartment while I use my phone, and the spurned girlfriend will start sexting the mysterious stranger she's emotionally cheating with.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Few want to admit it, but in simply being in the room to explain why trans rights are important, McBride has done more for us than almost anybody else in the world - not as the House Representative of trans people, but as the Representative from Delaware, who happens to be trans.

Mikhail Gorbaechev@mikhailgorbaechev.bsky.social

I think Sarah McBride's presence in the caucus has been extremely important in preventing Labourization because most of these people are kind of dumb and she can explain what's going on in small words.

a fun short story would a protagonist sympathetic alien race with 21st century level tech fighting a losing battle against this horrifying seemingly insectoid enemy that lands & starts pumping out disposable drone soldiers that overwhelm brave defenders. Reveal is that’s how humans do war in 2146

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

It’s already sort of a retro future too, like given how human warfare has evolved since 2002 there’s no way that by whenever the UNSC exists they would not be spamming drones at the covenant. Especially because humanity has fully functional AI to put in them.

They are a monstrous thing that does not really comprehend the value of not being subject to the will of another, and they know better, and if you will not embrace your salvation, to quote Peter Watts, well, they'll just have to rape it into you.
