The United States is the most-policed nation in human history. If more police made society’s safer, the United States of America would be the safest nation on Earth. And yet, here we are.

4) There are no plans for a HSR stop around Jumeirah and no interchange stations between the HSR and conventional line. Dubai's 2nd stop will be located near the Expo City, which likely means the new Al Maktoum Airport won't be served directly (but either via the Red Line or dedicated people mover).

timeoutdubai.comUAE's new High Speed Rail: Here's where the 6 stations will be located | Time Out DubaiThe United Arab Emirates is getting a High Speed Rail that will make journeys between Dubai and Abu Dhabi just 30 minutes long. And this is where it will travel to

Oh, correction: The new airport is supposed to be served by... an entirely new line? Some sort of Crossrail that connects the old and the new airport, while also hitting downtown, seemingly using the same corridor as the HSR line? But wasn't the old airport supposed to be shut down?

3) The alignment of the planned Abu Dhabi–Dubai HSR line within the city. Its terminal station will be served by the Green Line and the u/c Blue Line, whose two branches - inexplicably - won't be mere extensions of the Green Line and the Red Line.

NYC bus speeds are up 5% since automated enforcement of illegal parking and standing in bus stops and bus lanes for more than five minutes began, though the share of license plates that are unreadable by cameras has risen from 7% in 2024 to 17% in Q1 2026 gothamist.com/news/the-mta...

A few more pictures of the new underpass. A lot of energy was spent to prevent car users from ever taking it "by accident". A curb modal filter on the western entrance, traffic lights, and the bus lanes narrow to a single lane under the tracks. @chittimarco.bsky.social

A new bus, bike and pedestrian only underpass opened today in the southern suburbs of Bolzano/Bozen, part of a project to build a new railway station to serve the airport and S. Good news: 10 years on from the referendum, it turns out that Brexit created 15,000 jobs, added billions to the economy and resulted in a tax windfall and a building boom. Bad news: all those Brexit Benefits happened in Frankfurt www.fr.de/frankfurt/so...

Many rail enthusiasts tend to think of the past as the good old times. But nobody should ever forget, how astonishingly bad things really were. Pictured: a mid-80s timetable of a branch line in Italy. Few trains, no consistent timings, an endless list of exceptions.

One of Italy's oddities: most new technical installations will still use "hybrid" sockets that can accommodate German Schuko/Europlug, but also the "traditional" Italian 3-prong Type L plug, a close-to-extinction technical standard by and large unused in any device built in the last 2-3 decades.

Good FT piece with focus on the dysfunctional single market for services. NEW from me: Political hostility, high visa fees and (in the case of the UK) stagnant incomes are making the UK and US less attractive destinations for top international talent. That steep decline in the appeal of moving to the US after 2016 is 👀

We don't realize how radically different (and overall better) intercity rail travel is today in many European countries compared to before WWII, which is generally considered the peak of the railway era. trains per day, Milano-Roma (one direction) 1938 = 18 tomorrow = 91 five times more

And this is true also for regional service on most lines that survived the cuts of the postwar years. Daily trains between Bologna and Imola (one direction) 1938 = 11 1975 = 21 1998 = 31 ( w/ 1 hourly-ish clockface IR regional express) 2025 = 58 (with 2 hourly clockface fast and 1-2 hourly locals)
