In high school our marching band did a Star Wars show my junior year. At football games the announcer (who was also a member of the schools admin) would read a small prepared blurb introducing each song. I was a weird little dork at the time and the band director let me write the blurbs.

I made that man introduce the cantina theme as “Mad About Me by Figran Dan and the Modal Nodes” It’s such a tiny stupid little detail but it made me happy to cram such a useless little fact into the introduction.

I got some more Fallout pinball in before work today. It’s bucks the usual Stern trend of being code light at launch. There is a lot of stuff to do, and the theming feels spot on. It’s not “Shoot three light shots to light a mode” it’s “Your HP is low scavenge for food to heal/prepare for a quest.”

Functionally, it’s still “Shoot three lit shots to light a mode.” but they obfuscation they use makes it feel correct in world. There’s also a great push and pull with the “Raise Hp to light a mode” You can shoot shots that accrue radiation damage, capping your maximum health until you cleanse it.

This adds a tension “if I get too much radiation I’ll lock myself out of quests until I clear it, and that takes effort.” or you could light the shop and just buy a Rad-X Why would you ever want to accrue radiation? A very easy to earn extra ball, an entire extra life for a little extra effort.

I tried starting the Witcher 3 again and I think it’s time to accept it just doesn’t work for me. I want so badly to invest and lose myself in what I understand and believe is a truly phenomenal experience. But Geralt feels so fucking miserable to control, he’s just wading through sludge.

I don’t expect it to play like a character action game, but the combat, one of the games most mechanically interesting systems just feels like a slog, I don’t want to reduce the difficulty and rob myself of the challenge or nuance, but I grown when I see enemies approach.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

Yeah, both fashion and character design come from the same thinking of "how do we make a human silhouette more interesting?" Like the venn diagram between avant-garde fashion and tokusatsu monster design overlaps way more than it doesn't lol
