talking aobut this with a friend so figured i'd repost it

been a while since i mentioned this, but when i gam mak in RM* i like to use "states" as extra stats because they're so easily malleable by other states, equipment, etc. for example, in this game, these are in the states tab

doing some random game testing with my Steam Frame to see how well random stuff works on it and I am excited to announce Ark's Wonder Dungeon works perfectly

RPGMaker stuff can be hit or miss and I imagine it's even moreso with the ARM translation layer here. Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass had a memory issue and couldn't boot up, while Yume Nikki worked fine. Incredibly cool to see this stuff work period though.

Once my prescription lenses arrive later this week I can actually start playing games otherwise I'm too nearsighted to do anything other than make cool screen shots and set things up.

This is another reason why AI losers have gotten into retro decomp/recomp projects. Nobody wants to play AI slop games, so they have to reinforce the value of AI by producing something desirable, which in this case is just repackaging the work of actual talented people.

just wanted to share something i discovered the amount of games released in 2022 compared to this year has increased by 77%. I use 2022 because that marks the last year before AI really took over the internet whats crazy to me is that the amount of games with ZERO REVIEWS has ALMOST TRIPLED. ZERO?

I've been playing Cheeseonomics Deluxe lately, after it showed up in my discovery queue. Really good factory-style optimization game where you have to thread the needle between making just the right amount. I will probably do a proper blog on it later. Until then, strong recommend for belt-lovers.

Looking back, I mourned a lot that coding was the hardest part of making a game. I knew the concepts, but never learned much beyond the eventing in RPG Maker, and a bit of Ruby/JS. You'd think I'd have turned to vibecoding by now, right? I'm the target demographic for AI! Nah.

PSA : I've been made aware that at the end of the tutorial, pushing the shelf twice will cause a soft lock. I'll be looking into a way to fix this, but I am wary of breaking people's saves by updating with rpgmaker MV. If you know more about the subject of updating with the engine please reach out!

Every hour it feels like there's some new vibe coded nonsense being thrown out into the internet that instantly garners a bunch of attention and then promptly vanishes because no one actually uses it.

It feels like we're in the era of 'software clickbait'. It's stuff that's good for getting the attention of the worst people on forums/social media/youtube but has no actual value.

I've seen a lot of programmers really disrespect themselves thinking that genAI is "fine" when it comes to coding or w/e because it's not "art" Programming is an art. It requires creativity. And you're literally programming graphics, it's visual art. It's just art. It counts. AI coding is AI "art"

I don't want to be Too Obnoxious but I'm still looking for work and any leads folks might have. I'm an experienced C# Full Stack Engineer/Game Dev/ without any of that AI crap and I'm flexible for whatever a team might need.

I guess I'll toss this out there and see if anyone has any leads: Is there anywhere in Seattle hiring mid-level developers? Or what are even the best resources to uncover those jobs nowadays; I've tried all the various job boards and so far the results aren't great.

Got my COVID and flu shots earlier today...wrapped up in five layers of blankets and feeling like the most comfortable man in the world.

random encounters in jrpgs are like any design choice, they aren't inherently good or bad. lufia 2 is undeniably a better game than lufia 1 and that's in part because they mostly abandoned random encounter design that didn't work with the first game.

meanwhile i think ffiv ds is vastly the better game over the original because random encounters have spice and are properly dangerous. other games settle on them being reasonable challenges, some have them just as padding.

It's really been a consistent disaster; I thought the acquisition of Blizzard at the time was a boon because it got us out from under the thumb of Kotick but it's been clear since then that Microsoft will just gut everything they acquire.

Imran Khan@imrankhan.bsky.social

The gaming industry deserves better than what Microsoft is doing to it.

With so many industries being eviscerated by AI and hiring being at an all-time low it's increasingly harder to find work as money just continues to pour into the AI fire to keep the scam going as long as possible.

Indiepocalypse is one of THE true mainstays of (actual) independent and experimental video games. It's one of the few good game institutions we have left (though Andrew might balk at the 'institution' label). If you can, please consider supporting by sharing and/or donating to its Pledge Drive.

The 6th annual Indiepocalypse Pledge Drive is live with the ever present goal of Breaking Even! (and more so supporting the whole catalog of contributors) Any support, whether it's contributing to the drive or spreading the good word, is very much appreciated! pizzapranks.itch.io/indiepocalyp...
