The year is 2026 and I'm here writing about tables for page layout. I blame @nicmakesstuff.bsky.social social for nerd sniping me.

Was really confused as to why some properly labelled radio inputs were being announced as 'table', but I discovered 'display: inline-table;' not only exists, but it gives table semantics. Fascinating!

Shout out to whoever ended up reading my post about my CSS reset from the Google search query 'check parking brake system toyota avensis reset'. I hope you learnt something.

My YouTube recommendations have taken to routinely showing me this video, jump scaring me with my own bald mug.

A fresh release of my plugin for KOReader which brings support for downloading books from, and syncing progress with, Jellyfin. It harbours a pleasant number of quality-of-life improvements and a handful of bug fixes. Enjoy! github.com/DeclanChidlo... #KOReader #Jellyfin

github.comRelease v1.3.0 · DeclanChidlow/KOReader-Jellyfin-PluginFeatures: Added optional top menu tab for easy plugin access (thanks @Tewelus!). Ability to sort by date added to Jellyfin (requested by @edent). Added option to browse books as structured in fold...

Just watched someone ask Claude Code for a Git diff. We're so doomed.

There is a wealth of great new HTML and CSS functionality that can be used to enhance design systems (and anything else, really). Go get yourself caught up with my article over on the @zeroheight.com blog:

Your friend Vale here with a ukulele hooked up to an amp telling you Yanks to go vote. Do your part to gut the swine.

Lola is working on some really valuable stuff here. Consider taking 30 seconds to answer this quick single question survey.

📢 I need 160 more web developers to answer 1 important question. How do you interpret the "Fully Supported" label on MDN support tables? Let me know in the survey below and tell your web developer friends to answer too 🙏🏾 github.com/lolaslab/acd...

Is there any effective way to stop all Bridgy Fed posts appearing in my feeds? I have zero interest in seeing them and regard them as rather annoying.

I picked a hell of a time to get back into open-source PHP related development, by the way.

I was idly listening to the background noise of hard drive whirring and clicking coming from my MacBook, before I remembered it is a modern computer and doesn't have a hard drive. The fan isn't spinning either...

WordPress plugin created! Quite a bit more tweaking to do, but I think it is looking really good.

Version 0.2.0 of my WebView testing browser is now published. It has some proper fancy new stuff. Per-origin custom request headers, navigation lifecycle/FCP event logging, further cache control, bug fixes, and tonnes more options. I'm really happy with where it's at. tangled.org/vale.rocks/A...

I've just publicly released my Android system WebView testing browser. It embeds a WebView with some basic browser chrome and developer settings so you can test to your heart's content. Theoretically it should work as far back as Android 6, but I haven't tested it. tangled.org/vale.rocks/A...

Did I completely ruin the Git history twice while moving the repository between computers? Perhaps. Who is to say?

My browser watching on in abject horror as I go to load the one-page version of the HTML spec to 'quickly' check something.

It is only 7:30 AM, and so far today I've seen four separate, individual, unassociated references to the 1995 film Hackers across different websites.

Just updated this with a tad more <HYPE> info. Yes, I did go digging through Netscape source code.

Yesterday, the CSSWG accepted my proposal for mesh gradients and diffusion curve gradients! Want to make gradients like this natively in CSS? Well, we've started the work on it. It's coming! Here's the Explainer: github.com/w3c/csswg-dr...

I've just released v0.1.0. Now it has an actual app icon, allows controlling tonnes more features, has a browser console, supports Material 3 theming, and supports customising the browser chrome. Quite the WebView testing powerhouse now. Full changelog: tangled.org/vale.rocks/A...
