This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...
In about 24 hours, poles will open here in Israel. In what is a strong contender for Israel’s most critical elections. The election pits Netanyahu’s extremely unpopular coalition against a non-coherent, but moderately more liberal, opposition. Here are some thoughts as we head into it.

One extremely telling bit of evidence, detailed within, is how parental estrangement forums are private and behind paywalls. They don't want outsiders to know their politics. Also, these sites use right-wing media to advertise. Which shows they know who wants this. www.salon.com/2024/12/18/g...
This fuck is running scared of El-Sayed. Terrified. Shitting his pants. Lying. I feel optimism.
WELKER: Is a vote for you a vote for the Trump agenda? MIKE ROGERS: Um, I'm apologizing. I'm having some difficultly in my earpiece. But is a vote for you? I'm not sure. I'll tell you what a vote for me is. It's a great day for the state of Michigan

I hope Tommy enjoys his newfound fame as the poster child of being read for filth.
SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

“The failed presidency of Donald J Trump.” That one’s going to find its target.
Ossoff: "Maybe you saw that Donald Trump was in Dalton yesterday, oblivious to the collapse of his presidency. A crowd smaller than this one enduring two hours of senile babbling while the price of oil hit its 5 month high"

Here’s your nightmare scenario: Dems get house and senate majorities in November, Trump expands the Supreme Court in December.
Steve is a good faith operator, so - in good faith, some answers but fundamentally what it comes down to with me is that this conservative supermajority makes real progressive governance impossible, and it will hold its power forever (through strategic retirement) unless stripped of that power

This is live-skeeted and the judge is ANGRY. Trump clearing 500 trees to build his golf course may cause it to rain arseholes on many people involved (but not, of course, the orange turd).
gm! at 10 I'll be live-tweeting the emergency TRO hearing in Judge Reyes's "courtroom" (this is on Zoom) in D.C. Preservation League v. Department of Interior, otherwise known as the golf course case
A hippy I worked with would say ‘Mother Nature has a wicked way with her wand’ and I think that’s about the perfect description here.
Let's meet the black-backed dwarf kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca), native to India and Southeast Asia. It was previously called the "Asian dwarf kingfisher", but we now know there are TWO species in Asia & the new names differentiate them. (📷: Manish Nikte Photography)

Luke the rest of you I see these and don’t listen to them, because he’s vile and hateful and so very stupid. But! Have a listen. Advanced geriatric decay. We know he’s losing it but he’s LOSING losing it.
Trump: "The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn't. This is an indelible stain on the country of Norway. We will not forget, Norway." (note how tepid the crowd response is to this whining)

Japan imports 99.9% of its oil. It has already cut oil consumption in half from its peak. It knows what it must do to go further: move from hybrids to pure electric. 🎁🔗 www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Christians are weird as fuck.
So you're saying that Christians should abandon all forms of evangelism, which to us usually means allowing people to go to Hell for all eternity, a fate worse than death? I hate how it's often practiced, but to me a complete absence of evangelism is unkindness in the highest order.

In news that surprises nobody, the royal commission into antisemitism was a flaming pile of shite from the second it was called and its ultra right wing chair Jillian Segal, who funds Advance Australia, is a bit dishonest. But true evil is talking about the Gaza genocide.
THREAD: 4 months before Jillian Segal released her antisemitism report, she (+ adviser) took a secret trip to the US. The infamous 70 page totally redacted FOI comes to mind, as does Minister Tony Burke's claim for public interest immunity stopping the tabling of docs at Senate estimates.
This is the madness of an echo chamber. A mass of replies that no, actually, we don’t want the Texan Republican to win but what we REALLY want is the Texan Democrat to lose, coz he failed this one single purity test. Paxton is immeasurably worse than Talarico on trans rights, but don’t vote Dem!
Nobody would be mad if you’d just said “Don’t take our votes for granted.” What you actually wrote is that it would be better for Republicans to win than some Democrats. It’s a de facto endorsement of Republicans in those races. Words have meanings.
