Well I'll have more to say tomorrow but: Chow wins and not by a little; council got a little more progressive with some key flips & holds. Oh and in Pickering it looks like Lisa Robinson lost and maybe we won't hear from her again until her again.

Some notable (to me) election results, cherry-picked from municipalities around Ontario. (All based on preliminary results posted on municipal websites. Contents may have settled during shipping. Do not eat.)

I was way too early in the vote count on this one, but nearly an hour later and tens of thousands more votes counted and Francis still appears to be comfortably in the lead in Windsor.

Congratulations to former City of Windsor councillor Fred Francis, who appears to have been elected mayor of that city, defeating incumbent Drew Dilkens by 6187 votes to 4856 votes. results.citywindsor.ca?_gl=1*1ucvas...

It's municipal election day in Ontario. I voted. Hope lots of other people did too. Here is my favourite-ever election sign, photographed outside Omemee, in the City of Kawartha Lakes, during the 2010 municipal election. Gerald "Fight'n" McGregor defeated his only opponent 909 votes to 494.

I definitely don't disavow the Ali Brothers, but I have some questions about what appears to be their recently acquired cybernetic enhancements.

When he was running for Governor of California, did anyone think to ask Arnold Schwarzenegger whether or not he disavowed the Muscle Man Brotherhood?

I would just like to take this opportunity to formally disavow the Funk Brothers, the Dust Brothers, the Chemical Brothers, the Gregory Brothers and the Brothers Johnson.

Oh, and also the Brecker Brothers, the Jungle Brothers, the Allman Brothers and the Everly Brothers. I do not, however, disavow either the British or Canadian iterations of the band Bros.

Now I'm fantasizing a version of the Maritimes that's simultaneously wealthier, more populous and more politically influential within the Canadian federation, but that has also managed to break the backs of the traditional power bases in the region (e.g. the Irving Family).

Also, I wonder what would it take to get the populations of Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John each up over 100,000 people. The Maritimes would be better off IMO if it got more urbanized and there were a few decent regional counterweights to Halifax.

The year is 2036: the three Maritime provinces have been united into a single province for four years. Premier Kate Beaton is running for re-election on a platform of continuing to create even more new housing and strengthen post-secondary education, and building a new regional passenger network.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Tareq Hadhad is cruising toward another landslide victory in his riding of Antigonish, and has made the covers of news magazines around the world for his innovative approach to increasing spending on social services while keeping the provincial budget balanced.

I'm building a two-foot gauge theme park-style railway in Sharbot Lake, Ontario. $25 million ought to about cover it.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Thinking a lot about obstacles created to stop people from voting. I voted in the advance poll for our municipal election today and it was nearly frictionless. I walked in, showed the poll clerk my voter's card (mailed to me a few weeks ago) and photo ID, got my ballot, marked it, done. 5 minutes.

I'm in Canada, and fortunately we don't have a lot of people here actively working to prevent people from voting. But even here, if you're poor, if you rent, if you work at the kind of job where your boss (illegally) won't give you time off to vote, it can be difficult to exercise your franchise.

Anybody who does anything to try to stop people from exercising their legal right to vote is the enemy of everybody who believes in democracy. This shouldn't even be a question.

Given all the *flails hands* you all deserve one of the most adorable pictures I took of Baby Bird Season 2026. A snowy ploverlet peeking through a little sand shrub. Perhaps a once in a lifetime shot. 🪶 🐣

I don't know what those people are thinking, but I strongly believe that Joseph Kony could have literally murdered Adolf Hitler in a fistfight.
