The thing about Shane Gills is that he's really not that funny. You're welcome to criticize his sexism, but I think your cause would be better served by ignoring him.

The legacy of Brett Kavanaugh -- the "brief encounter" of racial-based kidnapping conducted by the federal government. Entirely predictable when the Supreme Court chooses to ignore the reality of how law enforcement officers actually act in the field.

NEW: The Trump administration keeps denying and downplaying that immigration agents have been detaining Americans. It’s wrong. We’ve found more than 500 U.S. citizens have been held against their will, including handcuffed or held at gunpoint.

The Constitution was intended to protect people from having their rights taken away by the government. But Samuel Alito thinks the Constitution exists to provide the framework for government to take away people's rights. This difference is why Samuel Alito is an asshole.

Samuel Alito's original sin has always been intellectual dishonesty. He knows what the law says, and what the Constitution represents, but willfully distorts it to allow, if not support, the rulings he wants to make. He's a liar, pure and simple.

Truly I never want to hear from broke ass Nebraskans begging for more welfare after seeing them laughing and guffawing when their leader said Iran can nuke Southern California Truly stfu Cornhuskers

It's likely that Trump meant that nuclear Iran would be able to take out American cities, so higher gas prices are a "small price to pay." But 1. He took a flippant tone towards a state that he's repeatedly attacked, and 2. It should take a road map to figure out what a president actually means.

TJ Wanderslug@wanderslug.bsky.social

Some will say that Trump was "joking" about Iran nuking San Diego or LA, or that he was just talking off the cuff, that he wasn't actually inviting Iran to attack the Blue State that happens to be the constant rhetorical target of Fox News. But it's still not acceptable behavior by a president.

How does Michael Tracey make a living? Is there that much money in being a sexual assault truther? Feels like his audience would be limited to frat bros and pedophiles.

I think we underrate that JCO came up in 20th century New York literary circles where everyone said five most devastating insults before breakfast and as one of the last one standing, her competition is guys who get sad if their chatbot isn't sufficiently nice to them.

Is the GOP still pushing this? Or did they realize basic competence still counts for something?

I personally believe that Eric Schmitt would be an excellent running mate for JD Vance. Call it the Hillbilly and the Dirtbag ticket.

So I've basically settled on the stupider mistake happening: Schmitt didn't confuse Hawks and Hawkeyes, he saw a reference to a row and seat number and concluded that the seat must exist in a particular city despite having no evidence to support that conclusion.

TJ Wanderslug@wanderslug.bsky.social

It occurs to me that if Schmitt had a text message that said "Hawks" he would've used it as a visual aide. Did somebody see "Terps vs Hawks" or something stupider and make such an absurd leap of logic that it didn't even work as a gotcha? Is it malice or incompetence? [why-not-both.gif]

To be the guy in his office who recognized "Hawks" in a text message and dreamed up a grand Watergate-Deep Throat level conspiracy theory.

Dr. Oz is a scumbag and should never been taken at face value. But also, if you think people with health insurance automatically *want* to go to the doctor, that they don't think twice about copayments and missing work, then you probably also bought the "miracle fat burner" he sold on TV.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz: "There are 5 times more people in parts of Obamacare in Florida than live in the state. It's impossible More than a third of people on Obamacare have never used the insurance policy once. If you were gonna pay your hard-earned money to buy insurance, would you ever use it? The answer is yes"

Please know that this is one of my few legitimate areas of actual, high-level professional expertise: Kicking the healthiest people off of a health insurance program will bankrupt it. Not 'could;' not 'might,' not 'probably," but absolutely will, with mathematical certainty.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz says the Trump administration will kick more than a million people off health insurance because some of them have "never filed a claim"

It seems so quaint now, but back in 2008 the economy basically crashed because finance guys knowingly pushed bad deals for quick commissions. Their individual greed was stronger than their collective common sense. Now we've got an idiot president pushing dangerous AI stocks that he also owns.

Hey dipshit. Yeah you, the dummy thinking you might vote Republican because of this. He already promised you a $2k refund of the tariffs you've been paying and never delivered. He also controls Congress and could deliver this today, tomorrow, or the day after Election Day. He won't. Don't be stupid

President Donald Trump pledged to send every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections. The promise, made at the GOP's midterm convention in Dallas, could cost over $1 trillion and would require congressional approval.

While it's possible to be concerned about multiple issues at the same time, even when you're as feeble-minded as Donald Trump, you have to wonder why he's tweeting about grouting a sidewalk when people are worried about Iran, Canada, and poisoned beef. He truly has no idea what's going on.

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

What is the president focused on today?

Not enough attention is being given to the fact that Donald Trump's attack against mail-in voting is a continuation of the Republican Party's practice of closing polling places. If you can't vote by mail, and they close your polling place, you can't vote against them. It's really that simple.

Purple (glossy)starling 25cm lives in tropical Africa very social birds that form noisy groups, join other starling species gathering in thousands for communal roosts. Diet insects, ants, and caterpillars, figs, berries nectar forage in trees, on the ground. Monogamous parents raise the chicks

Given that Capital One just filed documents that indicate Trump is likely involved in money laundering, I would take Trump's insistence on immunity to mean that a Dem-led Congress needs to start investigating Trump financial crimes in January 2027.

Clara Jeffery@clarajeffery.bsky.social

Trump’s justice department can grant him immunity from audits but I see no reasons why a subsequent administration can’t say: that was patently illegal, toss it out, and crawl all the way up his ass.

An extremely well-deserved victory lap from Bishop: The “index crossed into TACO territory on Wednesday and shot through its three key precedents on Thursday,” with pivot said to begin “after President Trump’s ‘mindset started to change on Thursday evening’”

Luke Kawa@ljkawa.bsky.social

Signum Global’s Andrew Bishop developed a “Hormuz TACO Index” (based on Brent, 10Y UST yields, Hormuz crossings & S&P 500) to map out presidential pivot points Conclusion: “extrapolating linearly would suggest that a TACO could happen as early as 7/22 and ‘should’ happen no later than 7/30”

Notable reference to the Trump vs. IRS slush fund in the final footnote of this ruling. Trump's DOJ is successfully proving to judges across the country that they cannot be trusted. Turns out that weaponizing the DOJ is harder than it looks.

Feels like a good time to remember that, despite their claim to be only going after bad guys, not a single ICE agent has been killed by a bad guy. Not a single time have they raided a target in gang territory and encountered somebody who opened fire on them. Not once.
