What's more suprising than anything the module delivers is that @weepingstag.bsky.social got into Star Trek through Lower Decks. Ew. (I'm sure Lower Decks is fine but that is an insane way to start watching Star Trek)

Season 2 of Ansible Uplink begins with a TIME WARP episode! @weepingstag.bsky.social joins to review the 1983 Classic Traveller module: Adventure 9: Nomads of the World-Ocean by Andrew and William Keith.

A fantastic article, and I recommend everyone interested in the power of ttrpgs and shared experiences to read it.

In Australia, a teacher runs Band of Blades every day for more than 30 students. @newmadras.bsky.social tells that story, alongside his personal recollections of the game and what makes it unique. It's not just a single narrative, it's...

My student told me he ran his paper through an AI checker to see if it would get flagged even though he wrote it, and it offered to “humanize” his paper by changing the sentence, “Illicit cocaine use is responsible for many potential adverse cardiovascular events” to “Cocaine is a bad, bad drug”

100. Into the Viridian Pit by @weepingstag.bsky.social A Star Trek inspired pointcrawl for Cairn 2e 🖖 Nice colors & a fun map, absolutely crammed with text describing locations, novel gear, an alien race, an infectious disease, & a whole roster of redshirts. Oh, and *literal* star-crossed lovers!

Scenario: C3PO exists. Although he is a machine, he easily passes any known test of consciousness or personhood that doesn’t include knowing in advance that he is a machine. He is capable of suffering and sadness. One day C3PO tells you he loves Critical Role. He has bought D&D books and a camera.

8 sessions of Cairntrek down! Both away teams successfully made it through Into the Viridian Pit (and one of the away teams had one of the best sessions of an RPG I have ever played). Developing more thoughts on Cairn and its relationship to Trek (below) #OSR #TTRPG

Thought #3 I've thought pretty deeply about the complications having your big homebase ship would have on missions. Like, "What if it removes the tensions of equipment usage?" But then I realized the fantasy of the spaceship was that you are powerful while you are on it, so missions on... (1/2)

Thought #1: Combat The simplified combat of Cairn is great for forest exploration, but it probably either needs more granularity to capture Trek firefighting, or I need to make more explicit combat moves (perhaps even moving in a PBTA direction with moves)

Thought #2: Rations I am not sure rations are a fit for this game's base rules, but they are a good for for certain scenarios (such as being stranded on a forest planet). I am thinking about removing rations from the exhaustion result on the exploration table. You get fatigue, or I roll again.

Now that I've read and rated 60 of these Appendix N Jam Bad Boys, here are just some of my favorites in no particular order. I'll probably make an App. N post-mortem that goes more into criticism at some point. I would run all of these.

Redoing some of the art I have for my horse mafia adventure, modeling the style after Darwyn Cooke. Not quite happy with emulating Cooke's stuff in digital, but I think with a few layers of semi-transparency I could get pretty close. #OSR #TTRPG
