Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

Starmer and Farage both drape themselves in flags but once again it's really clear where their loyalty really is. It's Trump first. They will always be on the side of the super rich and powerful - no matter how heinous the crime. This is not patriotism. It's subservience.

JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

Thread that makes you feel a lot better about the world + gives you a craving for a fish finger sandwich.

What's your favourite British things? I need a load of iconic stuff and I'm rubbish at patriotism or remembering. Stuff like the Mini or the Queen or the Beatles or Jaffa Cakes or the Hay wain or Big Ben, what are the first (good) things you think of?

Thames Valley Police told @bylinetimes.bsky.social the protest van was taken out of the area for being “at risk” of breaking the Road Traffic Regulations Act, though it’s not clear what part of this act they were referring to. The van was later returned to the activists - and sent away from Windsor

Frites She said I wasn't bad, bit in all honestly she'd prefer a poke of chips. (Poke is Scotch for a 'bag'. Origin, unknown). There was no other option. The bath was run, 5050 vinegar and HP. Pungent, but endured. My nightgown was traditional newspaper. My wooing attempt predictably failed.

She said she preferred chocolate to me. (Specifically, CDM, as she's all about the classics.) I coated my skin in Shea Butter and went on the sunbeds until it became culturally inappropriate. My nightgown was traditional purple foil. The wooing experiment predictably failed. #poetry experiment.

Ahead of Germany’s election, with anti-immigrant sentiment rising, they released viral videos showing life without immigrants. History proves that when a country starts erasing certain people, it doesn’t end well. 🧵
