Oh this is neat. ETH is assumed to be true in a bunch of theoretical CS work, so there's quite a lot of opportunities to revisit priors and maybe have a few faster foundational algorithms down the road openai.com/index/buildi...

One of the big positives of DevOps was devs suddenly started to care about the system breaking because they got woken up Before it was Ops and so reliability seemed like a distant concept that was someone else’s problem than who built the system

Rosalind Franklin had it in photograph 49, two images before the famous 51: “She recognized it, suggested a helical structure and used it to calculate…the length of each turn in the spiral…and the number of bases “per turn of helix (if there is a helix)”” www.science.org/content/arti...

Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

nyti.msDid Anthropic’s A.I. Really Make a Scientific Discovery on Its Own? (Gift Article)An expert at the University of Copenhagen said his team had been sharing its research with the company’s A.I. model, Claude, and that its new finding matched their work.

It is strange how much LLMs turned out to be able to solve such a wide range of hard problems that would not, instinctively, seem to be problems that a model of human language would be able to solve This is from a Stanford project that let Astra drive a robot in a kitchen tml.stanford.edu/homebody/

New tools enable new discoveries. We examined one of the most frequently analyzed biological samples and uncovered molecular coordination missed even by the most sensitive single-cell RNA sequencing.

Codex and Claude Code have a neat auto approve feature where 1) it doesn't ask for permissions, but 2) you get to feel safe. Well --- do you? The premise is it is asking an agent for permission. But if you don't trust the driver agent, why should you trust the review agent?
