For the first time on record (since 1980): 2026 has experienced a billion-dollar disaster from all 7 types of U.S. weather and climate events. ⚠️Just between January and September: 27 separate extreme weather events with a price tag of $1B or more have occurred.

My amazing mom - my kid’s Nonny - died a year ago today of heart failure. I miss her every day and still reach for the phone to text or call her about all the things- owies, kid achievements, sports, what we’re protesting. Been a tough year. Love you mom.

Kiddo, 6th grade, is learning to play euphonium. Picks it up to casually practice. After finding a few notes, he yells, “Fire in the hole!!!” and blasts a noise out of it as loudly as he can 😅. And that, dear readers, is how I became certain that he is truly a low brass player at heart. 🤣🤣🤣

In case you were wondering who else is full of bull 💩 when they denied, deflected, and dismissed climate change.

Just like Exxon knew about the impacts of climate change, the beef industry knew too. A new PLOS Climate study documents how the National Cattlemen’s Association (NCA), now NCBA, responded to evidence linking cattle methane to global warming from 1986–1996 (study 🔗 at end of 🧵)

Well, it rained last night. 5.47” at our house, to be precise. We are fine, and the neighborhood is mostly good (a few wet basements). But wow, there was a lot of flash flooding around the Omaha metro last night!

Climate pollution kills. It costs trillions of dollars per year. The Climate Convention is a ratified treaty. Under Article VI it is binding Constitutional law. The Supreme Court & ICJ recognize the duty to prevent this harm. This is a criminal abuse of office. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/13/c...

'Tis the season for spooky, witchy, gothic reads! Not my usual genre, but I thoroughly enjoyed their witchy, spooky world. Part 2 is ready for backing, and they need those pledges to raise enough to print it! You’re backing an awesome human when you support it. Not your jam? Makes a gorgeous gift!

She's right, of course - keep talking about your books! I wrote Wilder Weather: What Laura Ingalls Wilder Teaches Us About the Weather, Climate, and Protecting What We Cherish. Nonfiction book that draws from Laura's experiences (she lived through a lot!) to apply to weather/climate now and future.

I am not first and will be far from the last to say this: I have purchased so many books because I saw them recommended or publicized here on bsky. I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS. I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.

I am a proud Central Mich alum, and our most hated rival was Western Mich. Cars were tipped over when they played each other in the 90s. I grew up rooting for Michigan and still do most of the time. That clock was 100% at 0:00 before the ball was touched. I feel bad for WMU. Highway robbery.

A timely reminder that even if it isn't hot in your (my) backyard, it's hot in the bigger picture.

August 2026 was the warmest (hottest!) August on record for the Contiguous U.S. The average temperature of 75.5F was 0.35F warmer than August 1983. 🔥🔥🔥

The Trump administration wants to add brass wind instruments - trumpets, trombones, tubas, etc. - to the list of goods subject to Section 232 tariffs. That's right. The administration wants to tariff brass wind instruments on (checks notes) ... national security grounds. My latest for @piie.com.

🚨🚨🚨According to NOAA NCEI, July 2026 was the warmest month on record for the Contiguous U.S. - beating out July 1936. This is devastating for climate deniers, who love July 1936 as a faux counterfactual. More importantly, it is devastating for all of us. 🔥🔥🔥
