Need to add a couple more games to the 2026 completions list. In some way very similar, two RPGs. In some ways very different, because, well, yeah.
Spoiler for the write up: I really liked both of these games.
My daughter has shoes with trains on. I proper dad joked her the other day by asking her what noise the trains on her shoes made and when she answered “choo choo” I informed her they went “shoe shoe”.
Today she repeated this joke to one of her friends.
I have never been prouder.
My first 5 TTRPGs, in the order I played them:
(Stretching the limits of my recall abilities here)
1. Vampire the Masquerade
2. Werewolf the Apocalypse
3. Paranoia
4. Star Wars WEG
5. Cyberpunk
Also:
Dragon Age 2 is an incredible video game that took storytelling swings no one else was even considering in 2011, had one of the best ensembles in any medium, and was a goddamn feat of development that got made in A YEAR AND 4 MONTHS.
Haters can get bent, Kirkwall 4 life
Finally got around to writing up Nighthawks on my games of 2026 list and also added Restory, a cosy electronics restoration game.

Upside of my neighbourhood: We have a local naan restaurant that specialises in naan breads.
Downside of my neighbourhood: Several hours after dinner the house still has the most incredible naan smell in it and there is no more naan to eat.
Finally replaced my desktop (literal) made of what's probably chipboard with a big, heavy slab of solid wood.
I can stop fearing structural failure due to heavy monitor syndrome at last!
new Epic Games Launcher in preview -
"Programming is hard. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher that’s way faster and more responsive than the current one, and has a new look."

In the same day Epic announced a complete overhaul of anticheat on Linux and a buggy launcher that they claim is vibe coded. aftermath.site/epic-anticheat...
Not to mention everything I've heard says it just looks like the movies done over again.
For better or worse I've already seen those. I have better uses for my time.
I was tempted to pirate HP, curiosity and all that. But @jessiegender.bsky.social is right - think of the amount of times HBO commented on GOT leaks and downloads, just as an example.
They DO track these things, and even that drives interest.
Let this show die.
Trans people deserve better.
Next game I'll be adding to the games finished in 2026 list will be Nighthawks, a Vampire visual novel / story game that I backed on Kickstarter a good long while back.
It's not the only Vampire video game I backed on Kickstarter but it IS the only one I finished. Or enjoyed.
This one's good.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to announce further cuts to the number of generals and admirals serving in the military in an address set for Wednesday, the Pentagon confirmed.

Fun fact, as of 29th September I have played 17 games this year. The median and modal average release year are both 2004 and the mean is around the summer of 2009.
Games of 2026 updated with thoughts on Golden Sun.
tl;dr? I enjoyed it, it's definitely a technical feast of a GBA title and an enjoyable RPG.
Do I want to invest another 30 hours or so diving straight in to Dark Dawn? ... no, not right now. Some day.

WRT last reposts. What especially sucks about this situation is I kind of want to avoid buying Image because of this, but at the same time Image publish so many genuinely talented independent creators. It's not like the industry is spoiled for choice with places for them to go to either.
I did not know this. Exciting!
And having read the pitch it seems like a *very* Yoon Ha Lee book.
I look forward to being confused and delighted in equal measure once more.
also Ms Rachel remains a parenting lifesaver, daughter doesn't watch her any more as she's aged out but we still use some of the parenting advice literally every day and she still adores Bean Bear
the thing that gets me about Macklemore is that it would have been so easy for him to do a "your criticisms have made me go anti woke" grift after everyone made fun of him for being too earnest and cringe about being an lgbt+ ally and anti-racist but he didn't, he's still here, good for him
"the author of that harry potter story leads an insane cult that's captured much of the media in this country" is a different person if you're in the UK or the US
A village called Piddlington has voted to leave the UK rather than accept asylum seekers?
Fucking do it.
Cut them off from our energy grid and communications network, blockade their roads and demand passports, stop funding their public services, cease all trade with them.
Let them sink.
Holy shit, I am pleasantly surprised by the news for once? For friends abroad, that’s the UK’s national federation of unions. It’s about time the beast awakened.
Wait, let me get this straight, a few years ago Blizzard released 'World of Warcraft Classic' which was just releasing World of Warcraft again but now they've released World of Warcraft Forever which is just World of Warcraft again again?
the titans of industry are in agreement. naturally one assumes the proposal in question is bad or, at best, toothless
waiting for zuckerberg to say "yeah we'll pace ourselves too" and everyone to laugh

Isn't it convenient that the AI industry's unilateral decision to slow down development for the safety of mankind coincided with increasing evidence that the progression of AI is slowing and the flaws are intrinsic meaning their development was going to slow down anyway, disappointing investors?
@strandedselkie.bsky.social is out which means tonight is daddy daughter night followed by indulgently bougie burger and catching up on ghost in the shell.
Many thanks to kiddo for being an absolute angel too.
This is the life ™
