I want you all to know that I am a Marxist. Yeah I propose solutions to problems we face under capitalism that work within capitalism but that's because there isn't a glorious revolution on the horizon and I want the world to get better now.

I think if you use AI psychosis to disparage people you should log off for a long time and give some serious thought to the kind of person you're becoming and if that's really the kind of person you want to be.

man that is an absolutely cursed setup huh publically accessible cgit repo but for issues/ci/patch submissions you need to join our discord server

there's no amount of 'my brain is just bad' or 'well this day is already screwed' that you're obligate to accept from you. you don't have to permit this, no diagnosis obligates that. you can make systems around your systems for yourself just like you do at work

That last scene from the TNG episode "Tapesty" (favorite episode btw) keeps playing in my head.

i haven't been canceled in years, so here's a hot take for you: many people with ADHD use their diagnosis as an excuse for avoiding the hard work of creating persistent habitual structure in their lives, which would solve or mitigate many of the problems they attribute to ADHD.

Damn, real depression hours today. Just kinda feel ... grief, I guess. Wishing I was further along, that I achieved more, that measured up to others. Feel like all I have is a bunch of wasted potential and a huge github graveyard of failed ideas. Been years since I've felt like this, it sucks.

I'm trying to adopt a healthier mindset to all this though. Beating myself up only makes it harder, and I certainly still have time. I haven't become the person I aspire to be *yet*, the only person I need to be better than is myself from yesterday, etc etc

it makes me so sad that there is a subset of internet users that are against ai. it is the single biggest tool of personal liberation. you're able to do impossible things in a matter of hours. you can make everything perfect. and they choose not to, and choose to hate it. they became their parents.

PHP is burning. Node is burning. GitLab is burning. The certificate authorities have apparently been generating their private keys with an enchanted D6.

real talk is it not just possible to point an LLM at a PHP codebase and go "write this bih in ahhh Rust"

We should kill php like we killed java applets

details leaked. this vulnerability is a full unauthenticated unconditional remote code execution exploit against any service running on a PHP version from 5.4 until latest yeah if anything deserves CVSS 11, this is it. this is CATACLYSMICALLY bad.

Would people want to read this? I started in Haskell, moved to Rust, and have done stuff like reimplement recursion schemes in Rust for fun, so it wouldn't be _that_ hard for me to write based on that experience

After 10 years, I disabled my lobste.rs account. I think it's clear I am not a culture fit anymore with whatever it is they have going on there. I feel more and more like I don't belong in almost any tech community because I believe LLM agents are real, passkeys are good, and fascism is bad.

you're not going to get everyone living in their own little world of AI generated fiction and AI generated news and AI generated video games and etc because there is value in sharing experiences with other humans. there is also value in custom bespoke stuff, of course. a new equilibrium will form.

I'm tired of being tired all the time. I have ideas. I wanna make those ideas. I want to create. I wanna do things. With or without AI I wanna have *projects* but I'm just so *tired*. I'm too tired to do anything but slump in the chair after work.

Fun fact: trusting a random news article's summary of the abstract of a study because you really want to be true is also a form of cognitive surrender

Carl T. Bergstrom@carlbergstrom.com

In our course and book _Calling Bullshit_, we posit that If something seems too good, or too bad, to be true, it probably is. Now as a college professor I'm pretty confident that overreliance can AI can harm our thinking ability, but just ten minutes of use? Let's dig into this this study a bit.
