It's something we've been seeing in Hollywood in recent years as well: promoting the IP over the individuals that make it. There are exceptions of course, but by and large people are kept at a distance from the developers that make their games

As a suckerpunch alumni, this one hits particularly hard. Both Tsushima and Yotei were excellent games made by excellent people, who worked SO hard and cared so much about the craft and the games they were making. They deserve better. This industry NEEDS unions, and it needs them now.

Far more of us than we'd care to admit are basically Schielke, but the Stroops are real, they don't look like stereotypical villains (Stroop's a pretty pathetic figure), and they're never, ever going to be brought around to understanding the evil inherent in their actions.

Guys like Schielke follow orders when the permission structure tells them they have to, and don't necessarily surrender their sense of right and wrong. Guys like Stroop - and the cop here - think their brutality is objectively good, that they should benefit materially from it, and that they're moral

The SS were living well, with servants, money, better rations, and better equipment, while others were nearly starving. They believed they deserved it. The SS men didn't even sympathize with their countrymen, much less the people they were actively killing and exploiting. There's a lesson there.

Been reading about a lot of very bad but entirely ordinary people throughout history for the next season of Past Lives (Everyday Villains). This guy is utterly typical. 1) Doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. 2) Permission structure in a system of hierarchical authority. 3) Benefits materially.

I was sexually abused as a child. I'm not the only person I know who can say that. If I'd been forced to let ANYONE perform that sort of examination in order to play sports, a thing children need for health--both physical and mental? I am not unique. Vote no on unnecessarily traumatizing our kids.

Nobody wants to strike, it means that all other options have failed and the company refuses to acknowledge the value of workers. I’m sorry these workers were forced to make that choice, and I commend them for standing up for a better future. Solidarity forever! I donated $100, will you match me?
