The media always talks about "class war" or "race war" as if they're not already happening. This is an example of both. Making someone pay for their imprisonment is grinding the heel in the back of their neck, just to make sure they know their place.

People also cant believe there is such a thing as “cell rent.” 41 states have it & even if you leave early states like FL make you pay the TOTALITY of your original stay. One Black woman was billed $127,000 ($50 a day for 2,555 days) for the full 7 years of her sentence despite only staying 10 mos

This is the sort of thing that makes me want to put more rich people in prison. Then charge the MF's. But scale it up, of course. Musk pays $50k / day for his stay.

I've been working like hell to get this across to leftists: The term "zio" is inherently antisemitic and shows that you're willing to make common cause with the far right.

Spooky Scary FTM@sincerelyandrew.bsky.social

Zio is a slur created by a white supremacist. The term glowie was invented by a racist man. It costs zero to examine yourself and your biases. Quit using phrases made by racist white people.

I used to think that talking about “hate” was anti-political, that it moralized what were really deep material and structural issues. There are obvious deep structures to oppression that go beyond “hate.” But hate actually matters!

At the end of the day, either you believe no one should be treated like the Nazis want to treat people or you are lost. no one should be talked about like the Nazis talk about people. It’s humanism or bust

Just a reminder that people don’t always realize they were raped in the immediate aftermath. It can take hours, days, months, and even years to realize you were raped, and it doesn’t make it any less true. There are many kinds of responses, including fawning and trying to appease your rapist

How to kill gaming for good: As if matcha boxes and micropurchases weren't bad enough, Microsoft wants you to watch ads in order to do boss fights. Fuck no to this shit. I have enough trouble with RL breaking my focus, without ads doing it for me. #gaming www.techspot.com/news/113909-...

Labor Day. Today we remember Joe Hill: immigrant worker, songwriter and Wobbly organizer, executed by firing squad in 1915 after a conviction widely denounced as unjust. His final message to the labor movement: “Don’t waste any time mourning. Organize!”

The ultra-wealthy keep trying to pit the rest of us against each other with scare tactics ("communists!" "men in the ladies room!!" "brown people!!!" "drag queens!!!!") to keep us from noticing that our real problem is THEM. They want us to fight *any* war—except a class war. Happy Labor Day.

I find class-first/only "Leftists" to be the most useless kind of activists in existence. No matter what they tell you, they're not really radicals. Just centrists with a Marxist vocabulary. They'll ignore race, gender, disability, neurodivergence, etc. and act like all those things can....🧵

This was kind of triggered by some internet asshole dismissing depression and ADHD as simply the natural results of living under Capitalism, rather than their own thing. But what I really hate about my AuDHD is how often it keeps me not from doing things for the corporate machine....

...but how often it keeps me from doing things I *want* to do. Like creative writing, or art, or gaming, or just socializing. My brain's been really fuzzy the last few days, and while ending capitalism might help me get care, it's not going to change the chemistry of my brain. Anyway, rant over.

As a white leftist (but hopefully not a White Leftist), I've been thinking about this stuff for a while, and specifically that phrase. Class War is already here: Capitalism depends on it, just as White Supremacy depends on Race War and Patriarchy depends on Gender War.

....be magically solved by getting rid of capitalism. All those other things will wither away in the revolution. Of course, they imagine themselves in the inner circle of the revolution, if not actually at the top spot, not having to make any of the accommodations or compromises that inevitably...

This is such a lazy piece. It's like "this is a price control, and price controls always fail." First, it's not a price control. It's a government subsidy. Second, price controls don't "always" backfire. They prevent gouging in emergencies and help regulate monopolies.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

In the meantime, I'm taking care of my disabled partner, who survived a stroke about 17 years ago, becoming hemipelagic, and dealing with my own fairly recent diagnosis of autism w/ADHD. If I'd know earlier, the last 40 years would have been SO much easier. A lot of things make sense now.

I'm a longtime science-fiction, fantasy, and horror nerd, and love TTRPGs. I try to avoid D&D in favor of stuff like Call of Cthulhu, Alien, and weird indie shit. That's my intro for now. Glad to meet you all.

I became political during the Reagan years, and to some extent, I've been expecting this bullshit ever since; and yet when it actually came in this form, it still knocked me for a fucking loop.

You are up to date.
