Twenty-five years after the mayor of New York City became the champion of America's grief and resilience at the time of the 9/11 attacks, families of those killed are split on whether the current mayor should attend the annual remembrance. https://cnn.it/4zkKYdc

Just because a handful of racists said something extremely fucking racist, does not mean that you have to pose this as some kind of issue that has two equally-reasonable sides.

Absolutely. The current mayor of New York City was 9 years old when 9/11 happened. Intimating that he had something to do with this is beyond disgusting.

they are very excited in the neo-lib group chat that they finally have a hook in him. they are going to keep amping up this racist tripe until they unintentionally make 911 an outwardly appearing Israeli holiday

This is yellow journalism, just irresponsible: 1. On 9/11, #Mamdani was 9, a child. 2. Naysayers' only problem with him is that he is Muslim. Nothing else. 3. Even Bush, a Republican, was quick to remind America that we cannot blame all Muslims. CNN should be ashamed of this propaganda piece.

"Bigoted pieces of shit demand that Muslims go away" would be more accurate, but of course, you're pieces of shit who want to validate that bigotry. Hey you, the piece of shit in charge of CNN's Bluesky posts - didn't you want to be a reporter? How was your soul this cheap?

How is this an issue? When a self-styled Christian shot up 2 mosques in NZ a few years ago did the Muslim community tell any religious group to stay away from the memorial service for the 50+ dead? No they didn't. This reaction is simple-minded and hateful.

Because they agree with the bigotry. At best they just want clicks, which means they're okay with pushing the opinions of bigots to create controversy. The two options are nearly indistinguishable in outcome.

Some 100 years after World War One shocked the globe, many in Cleveland wonder if the city's sizable population of Bosnian and Serbian Americans should be allowed to participate in memorial ceremonies

There is probably some young gun data kid at CNN who is practically dancing with glee at this ratio, while a former print journo who is two years from retirement is scrolling Zillow for mountain cabins.

The ones opposed, if they really are opposed, are bigots. End of story. Just being related to someone who died 25 years ago doesn't give them any special status or insights.

That's just BS. He is the duly elected mayor of NYC. He should be at the Memorial. A few racist bigots shouldn't decide he doesn't belong. It isn't guilty by association or paying for the sons of others.

They are perfectly at peace with Trump and Kushner being bought and paid for by half the Middle East and being Saudi violence apologists? Write that story.

Love the implication that the "journalists" at CNN are more interested in covering shit like this and stoking racist fears instead of all the heinous stuff Trump is doing.

this is such an insane headline. it isnt “split” there are a few families that are clearly Islamaphobe Trumpers and they can fuck right off with their misguided hate. It’s only a story because our center-right legacy media like CNN picked up this crazy alt-right hate mongering from the NY Post.

You quote ONE GUY — one obviously Facebook-poisoned Long Island MAGA retiree — and frame a whole-ass racist “controversy” around it. You don’t have to report on dipshit online petitions by FOX News grandpas. This is a choice, and a pathetic one.

Gloria Pazmino should be absolutely ashamed of herself for writing this disgustingly xenophobic and islamophobic hit piece. In the coming years let her name always be associated with the hate, racism and bigotry of the right against all Muslims.

Racists shouldn’t be coddled. It is bad for them and for society. You corpo fuckwits at CNN know better. Do better.

What’s the controversy? Are all Muslims responsible for 9/11? The real controversy, IMO, is that organizations like CNN are centering racist’s bullshit opinions. Calling this a “controversy” implicitly accepts the racist argument.

Your entire platform is a bad joke. You aren't even a news outlet anymore. You're just an outrage farm, a mouthpiece for bigotry, fear, and idiocy masquerading as something decently researched and thought-provoking.

15 of the 19 hijackers carried Saudi passports and MBS tea-bags Trump in the Oval but sure, tell a popular Mayor of NYC he should stay away bcs the optics are bad.

I’m so fed up with shit churning “journalists.” The original number of those who signed on was debunked, but the lie was grist for the mill. The Mayor of the City of New York should & will attend the ceremony. He’s doing a great job for all NYers. Stop the hate.
