A thread about Christian Nationalism —yes, capitalized and very real. Hope it offers some starting points.

Curious about the roots of Christian nationalism in American politics? Here's a starting map of key figures and organizations feeding into American Christian Nationalism spanning decades. After enough division, all that was missing in 2016 was a fraud willing to light the match and take power. 🧵1/14

I’m prepping a thread 🧵 on Christian nationalism in America. As a former believer, I saw firsthand Christian reactions to Bill Clinton. Make no mistake, churches ignore their 501(c)(3) non-profit rule barring them from endorsing or opposing political candidates, especially now under Trump’s IRS.

For anyone curious about the roots of Christian nationalism in modern American politics, I'd suggest starting with David Barton and the evangelical mobilization around George W. Bush's 2000 campaign, then following the thread forward to figures like Sean Feucht today.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

“Evil” It’s an interesting word that has been used, misused, abused for a very long time. What is it? Who gets to decide what it is? And can that change? Or does it keep a certain “moral DNA”? I’m going to draft a Substack essay on this mainly as an open notes exercise.

The Diplomat’s season 4 finale (Netflix) reminds us of the cowardice, arrogance, and delusion pumping through the veins and minds of the American VP, Secretary of State, and others in the Trump regime.

The world watches the continuing pogrom. The irony is not lost on us. A Russian word once coined to describe what happened to Jewish communities starting in the late 1800s is now the word we can use for what Jewish settlers are doing to Palestinians. —and they do it without shame.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. https://wapo.st/4yt6dHY

I’m waiting for freedom of speech and press warriors like Douglas Murray to speak up about what’s been happening to journalists in Israel. —Oh, wait, he already has. OK, are there any other pro-Israel writers with the stones and moral backbone who can hold multiple truths at the same time?

If Putin stops fighting, the war ends. If Zelensky stops fighting then his country will be occupied, leaders murdered, language banned, businesses stolen, children kidnapped. That's what happens in Russian-occupied Ukraine.

He warned us. And now we’re strapped with an anti-science, ignorant kleptocratic government striking a balance between idiocracy and autocracy.

Once again, @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu draws attention to the underlying layers of corruption and surreptitious conflicts of power Trump & family are more than happy to create.

The Trump administration wants to lift sanctions on a Russian company to benefit mostly Middle Eastern investors (who also happen to be Trump family business partners) www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/w...

If you cannot admit the truth of this, then which is it? a) You're in a socially unsafe space. b) You're in a legally confused nation. c) You're morally confused. d) You're amoral. That should cover most bases.

James Kirchick’s piece in @theatlantic.com went through at least two editorial reviews. ‘Parasite’ is reference to the DSA’s political system and the ‘entryism’ (or ‘entrism’) it is using to leech off of the DNC. #HistoryRepeats 🧵1/6

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social

The Atlantic should be ashamed to have published Jamie Kirchick's "DSA is a 'parasite'" screed. Beyond that, though, no one should credit Kirchick's thoughts on DSA or the Dems. He is a bad-faith operator here, undermining those he has always sought to undermine — because he is a neocon.

Based on the comments about the DSA and those warning us about them, it’s becoming frighteningly clear there is too much confusion for a unified 68% majority to send the GOP packing, win back the WH, and start repairing the damage 45/47 has done -> not to mention prosecuting ALL of them. 🧵4/5

So, come on people, get it together. If neo-cons (you happen to detest even though they hate Trump) are giving the Left some medicine for their political confusion, please take it so we can coalesce, survive the midterms, win in 2028, and end the Trump madness. 🧵5/5

The DSA is to the Democratic Party what the Tea Party was to the Republican Party. The internal unraveling of the GOP opened the door for the Orange Horror of a human now in the Oval Office. This time, the DNC is unraveling from within. 🧵2/5

Also, this time, it will be the DSA that increases the chances for GOP to win in 2028. Since 2016, James Kirchick (formerly NYT, now The Atlantic) has been warning us about Trump’s authoritarian populism. Call him what you will, but he has known the assignment since 2016. 🧵3/5

Great to see Marine families like the Barr’s standing up for what’s right in Michigan. Great to see @slotkin.senate.gov leading a coalition of coherence where it matters, too. Let’s hope the rest of the DNC is paying attention as we roll into the last few months of the midterms, not to mention 2028.

For my W Social friends, American progressives are not out of the woods. There is still too much in-fighting between “normal” Democrats and “DSA” types who are jeopardizing the midterms, if not laying the groundwork for an embattled GOP to prepare better for 2028. 🧵 1/2

I’m not against “DSA” Democrats, but I am against platforming or endorsing ppl who are making the same mistakes as 2016 and 2024. The messaging needs speak to more Americans, not give red meat to GOP trolls who have been honing their skills the last decade. 🧵 2/2
