I wrote about everything I've felt, feared, and experienced about using AI for code over the last few years, and my opinions on where we stand. It's the most personal thing I've ever written. And I'm putting it out there to share with all of you. blog.isquaredsoftware.com/2026/05/ai-t...

Excellent read I appreciate the thoughts you've written. If you've gotten to the point of forking OpenCode, I'd recommend looking into Pi if you have a spare evening. Its more extensible so you could probably get further without forking. Would have to bring your own sandboxing though.

Also there are open source grants for Claude and Codex subs you can get off the labs if you need More Tokens (I hope work is paying your API costs). But the Claude sub will force you into using Claude Code or you will be Banned lmao. Codex is a lot more chill on that front.

Cathartic read. Your resistance towards AI adoption paralleled my own last year, especially where you kept redrawing the line you'd never cross.

> No one's going to pay extra just so a human can hand-craft a for loop. They will. There's a huge difference between a wooden chair and software. A wooden chair doesn't need maintaining as often as software does. LLMs don't produce maintainable code.

I appreciate you sharing this. I have it opened so that I’ll read it once I have the time and feel like I’m in a good headspace to think about this topic more. (Feels like it’s constantly shoved in our faces and tbh it’s pretty charged/tiresome for me to wrestle with)

Yeah. I know this is a tough topic for you. Like I said at the start of the post, not trying to convince anyone of anything - just sharing my own experience

very nice post. on the determinism point, I think the relevant point of comparison isn't heretofore existing software, but rather the human-computer systems that produced the software, which are clearly not deterministic

should I write the rest of the post or is this the whole thing

I didn't happen to try the official OpenCode web GUI. Found CodeNomad first and was happy with it. At this point, no reason to look further or try switching :)

Dude, are you in my head reading my mind? 😅 I feel so many of the same things. I’m a bit behind though, still kinda stuck in part 5. Really hard to let go of the craft.

I didn't write this one for clicks or engagement... but yes, after reading dozens of "my craft has been wiped out" posts, I did figure this would resonate with people :)

It's very hard to talk about AI without understanding the economics. Once the subsidies inevitably stop we'll see the reality of it. If subscriptions/tokens cost eg 10x more that's going to paint a very different picture. I doubt free AI can be monetized with ads like eg Google Search.
