An aircraft created in the 1950s… The initial F-5A was flying in 1959. However it did enter service in the early 1960s. It was being improved until the 1970s, though it’s unclear when this one was made & what improvements it might have.

That's why retired USAF F-5s play aggressors in contractor training. FYI the T-38s manufactured in the 60s are still in use, they've gone through modifications and upgrades. They are used for initial training of fighter pilots. Like the F-15s & F-16s some designs are built to last.

The likely scenario here is that the Patriots were"upgraded" with AI like everything else is these days. The AI determined that there is no way anyone was attacking a US military base with an ancient F5. Therefore, it assumed the radar image was a glitch and ignored it.

Congress can impeach, but it takes the House to vote and the Senate to convict. Donald Trump was impeached twice and still stayed because the Senate didn’t reach 67 votes.

Considering the impacts to ground/air-based radar, and the terrain on Iran, I can imagine it. The F5 is a small intercepter and may effectively avoid detection until it breaks out of the mountains. Combine this with the assumption that Iran couldn’t pull off such a stunt… Hubris

Does anyone know when was the last time anyone employed an F-5 in combat? Did they file an IFR flight plan that included a descent to 5,000 feet over the base then a climb back to join airways and RTB? No air defence radar, no AWACS? Maybe they attacked while everyone was at bible study.

OK, so I don't know much about fighter jets, but aren't we up to something like 36 on these planes now? I'd assume the F5 is closer generationally to the Handley Page bombers my grandfather was trained to fly in 1918.

The trainer is the lighter 2 seat T-38 but they are mostly the same. The T-38 all white but at Beale AFB where the U-2’s are based theirs are gloss black with red pinstripes. I see them a couple times a month.
