Today marks five years since George Floyd was killed by police. Our June 22, 2020 cover “Say Their Names,” by Kadir Nelson, illustrated how Floyd’s murder embodies the history of violence inflicted upon Black people in America. nyer.cm/UmfefJw

The extra-extreme members of the House Budget Committee voted "present" tonight so that the Medicaid-cuts-to-fund-tax-giveaways-for-the-rich bill could pass out of committee 17-16. Tomorrow, flood Capitol Hill switchboards to voice your opposition to this monstrosity. 202-224-3121.

Q: There are many people who fit the criteria of fleeing persecution. Afghans for example. But they're being denied refugee status. So why such an exception for the Afrikaners? TRUMP ADMIN OFFICIAL: One of the criteria is making sure they can be assimilated easily into our country

#ResistanceRoots Today in history, 1963: Bob Dylan, then unknown, was set to perform “Talkin’ John Birch Paranoid Blues” on the “Ed Sullivan Show.” Dylan walked off the set after network censors told him during dress rehearsal that he could not perform the song. /1

We need to not only talk about it, but work to alleviate it...and the misery of those who are marginalized. The poor are no different from you and me except they're poor. #poverty #inequality

Raskin: He destroyed more than $10 trillion in American wealth in a single week. And then he went golfing and bragged to America about winning the tournament at his own golf course. That's like bragging about being endorsed by your own campaign manager. So much winning

DOGE is like the anti-Peace Corps. Peace Corps sent a bunch of 20somethings to try to help people around the world as ambassadors for good. DOGE is a bunch of same age incel douchebags doing hack-a-thons to gut services for people in the US and around the world in the name of "efficiency."

One way to think of what’s going on is that Trump & his gang are trust fund kids spending down the reservoir of U.S. power & influence without understanding or caring where the balance in that account came from. They treat it as just a fact of nature that there will always plenty there.

Well, the US will have to decide whether it wants allies or believes it can go alone while insulting every other country. Because if it is the latter, buying US military equipment would be daft. www.reuters.com/world/us-off...

What is currently happening in the US is that the legal standards of the ungoverned spaces of US imperialism and the war on terror are suddenly (and predictably) being deployed within continental US borders. The colonial boomerang striking again. Never forget: fascism is colonialism turned inward

A fascinating interview on Trump's infatuation with Putin, with Fiona Hill -- someone who has witnessed it up close. Really worth listening to.

The New York Times is the first to put out comprehensive estimates on the cost of a year without U.S.A.I.D. and they’re higher than I thought: - 1.65 million deaths from AIDS - 500,000 from lack of vaccines - 550,000 from lack of food aid - 290,000 from malaria - 310,000 from TB

Killing children is by design, I'm afraid. "Pro-natalists" like Musk claim they aren't racist, but their pressure to have children is solely focused on white women, while they back policies that literally kill of non-white children. He's a eugenicist. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
