Democrats forced their Senate nominee out within days of a serious allegation. Republicans have repeatedly rallied behind candidates facing similar accusations. That difference says something important about what each party now tolerates. open.substack.com/pub/adamkinz...

Platner presented himself to the world as a blue collar Clam Farmer. He failed to mention he sells his Clams to his wealthy mother's company. He grew up wealthy and IS WEALTHY!

But Republicans lie to their base and say Democrats forced Platner out because he was going to lose. Republicans say asking people to keep their A/C no lower 76 degrees during a heat wave is socialism. Until we get big money out of government and Fox News out of business, not much seems to matter.

Well, it’s not so much tolerance…when you’re good family-values Christians like all elected GOP officials claim to be, there’s something in there about forgiveness, blah blah blah. Apparently, even when the offender has not asked for forgiveness nor done anything to atone for their transgressions

"now tolerates"? Randy Cunningham had a bribe price list in the late 1990s. The news broke in June 2005. He was prosecuted, and still the GOP backed him. He played guilty in Nov 2005, and kept his seat. He finally resigned weeks later. No one from the GOP called for him to leave.

Exactly. Al Franken forced to resign because in his comedic days hovered his hand over a sleeping womans boob. That's it. Our POTUS convicted of sexual assault that a judge said qualified for rape. He's leading our nation. And that doesn't even take in to account the Epstein pedo charges.

Tolerates? Or ENDORSE? It's become a requirement for any GOP member to have sexual assault allegations or, at minimum, fraud/criminal allegations.

Damn shame that Adam must show Democrats how to close ranks. Other Democrats enjoy trading barbs publicly. And that is why Republicans outperform Democrats despite inferior policy. If only Dems could learn.

politicaldictionary.comEleventh Commandment - Political DictionaryThe “Eleventh Commandment” refers to the adage, “Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican.” This unwritten rule encourages party unity by discouraging public criticism …

I sure hope the difference is not lost on anyone. The rape allegations against Hegseth are worse than Platner. For Trump, rape has been determined in a civil court by a jury. Democrats rightly reject candidates credibly charged with rape or sexual abuse, Swalwell. MAGA welcomes them.

Well yes, we are not a bunch of hypocritical misogynistic rapists w/ a small penis complex, & will not abandon principles just to win elections. MAGA will put up pedos, rapists, fraudsters, drunks, Nazis, bigots, peeps who believe in aliens & demons, if enough folks can be conned to vote them in.

Also the Character of each party. You know, even if he can prove his innocence (I hope he can) that's beside the point. He is unelectable now and character demands that he step aside for the sake of his party. Gotta say, his behavior at this moment makes the allegations against him seem spot on.

Do the parties not vet their candidates anymore? I mean the discussion should have went Planter "I want to run for office" Dems "Is that a nazi tattoo?" Planter "Is that what it is? I just thought it look cool." Dems "Get the fuck out" Would have saved so many problems.

REPUBs are in such a cult that they don't realize the irony that the same week DEMs get rid of a candidate due to accusations of rape, Trump had to pay $5M for being convicted of sexual assault. The DEMs have replaced the REPUBs in being the Moral Majority.

How to make this a common talking point among voters? A simple (simplistic?) ad idea: bsky.app/profile/dbon...

David Bonowitz@dbonowitz.bsky.social

Black screen. In the middle, one of the ugly pictures of T's face, tiny and out of focus. As audio plays in the background, the image gets bigger and comes into focus, until it fills the whole screen in time for the voiceover. The audio is 2 Mainers talking:

Yeah, I tried to make this point in another thread and was flamed to hell for it. Bluesky participants are quick to pounce here in this space. Too bad that hasn't also shown up in electoral success lately.

Yes maga tolerates a 34 convicted felon👺and liar🤬the RINO in office accused of sexually, abusing women multiple times using our taxpayers money like it’s his own checkbook. Why do you think?? Because his maga followers can’t see the TRUTH. trump is a con man.. DON THE CON!!

I'll quibble on your mention of Roy Moore - Voters took him out, Not the AL Republican party. (But props to Shelby for refusing to vote for him, and he was treatened with sanction for that by Rs....)

Paxton is openly cheating on his wife. One would think evangelicals would have a problem with that, but nope. MAGA is their religion and 🍊🤡 is their god.

YES REPEAT AFTER HIM: Running for office isn’t the same thing as standing trial. No one is entitled to be a senator. Parties must decide who they are willing to ask voters to trust, and character ought to be part of that decision. The difference between the parties has become impossible to ignore.

Of course, the GOP white men think they should control everybody and everything. If they want sex with a woman, she should comply. It's the caveman mentality they want to bring back in this country. But, the internet, cameras everywhere, and no abortion that will take them down every time!

It's the repukkklican party's way, lies and corruption. Their behavior split their own party. We're glad for their transparency now. They're history come November 3 and for quite awhile afterwards.

Basic rule of life applies to almost everything, including vetting candidates for office: measure twice, cut once. NC Sen candidate Cunningham & his sexting was the last time I donated to a candidate. My $ go to ACLU, LDF, whistleblowers, voter registration etc. instead.

"within days" - not really... there have been red-flags waving in Maine Democrats faces for months. He's always been a dangerous candidate and they should have found somebody better.

Everybody likes to use Platner as the example of how Democrats treat accusations of sexual misconduct. Platner had too many issues to have gotten as far as he did. It took us far too long to realize that someone who would publicly state that women who get too drunk or who dress to provocatively…

…get what they deserve might be a rapist. I can’t be too proud of how we viewed Platner as a viable candidate in the first place. Erik Swalwell is a much better example. He was the golden child, the bright future of the party. But as soon as allegations of sexual misconduct came out about him…

I believe that he is probably an asshole, but Democrats could play the, innocent until proven guilty gimmick and promise to remove him if convicted. Republicans inserted a President that’s adjudicated a rapist and a convicted 34 count FELON and 99% of elected Dems are silent.

Truth be told I expect the reason some dems didn't circle wagons is that he won the primary on promises to pursue progressive goals they don't want pursued Just once I wish we could have someone willing to fight who isn't also a corrupt douchebag or sex criminal

I agree that more Dems have withdrawn after allegations than the GOP but I’m not sure we can be holier than though after Bill Clinton and even P had allegations against him for a REALLY long time. (Which is sad because I did like the things he said, just not the things he did or had tattooed.)

Bill Clinton lied about getting a blow job. It was absolutely sceezy, but it wasn't non-consensual and the rest is between him and HRC. He's a disgusting slime ball, but there is absolutely comparison. doesn't even rise to the bad joke level of Franken, who got (rightly) drummed out.

However, in their hair-on-fire zeal to appear sensitive to the issues at hand, the Democrats have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Our choice is, once again, dangerous or stupid.

The difference between the political parties; Democrats step down if there are allegations. Republicans elect them as president.

The issue is that Platner should have been forced out months ago. The moment we found out about his Nazi tattoo, he should have been out, especially after he blatantly lied about not knowing what it was. Democrats tolerated him for too long.

at first, I think there was the benefit of doubt. I think that if someone is sober after being a drunken lout, we should have some level of forgiveness. But, there are lines that cannot be crossed, such as, rape, murder, assault, or other violent behaviors.

Of course! What else is there to say about a political party that would elevate the worst criminal and fraud in politics to the presidency twice and protect him from being prosecuted for sexually abusing children?
