I feel stupid for noticing a mirror-bug pretty early on in this game. I should just be happy they work as well as they do. Why does it matter than the shadows on Bond's back are wrong in the mirror? He can't even see them!

As a millennial gamer, I can say that there's been huge improvements with several things over the years: Fire - getting it right is hard, and most just use a cycling series of flat images Water - ripple effects are a B Mirrors - very technically difficult. Notably, even CyberPunk 2077 ...

If I remember correctly from my playthroughs, Cyberpunk mirrors were fake mirrors that placed background and mesh copies, flipped, on the other side. In 007 mirrors look like proper cameras to render textures that end up mimicking real mirrors perfectly, but being expensive.

Basically, it was a "mirror" very loosely, in that you have to "interact" with a "mirror", at which point the game animation-locks you in place as the "mirror" focuses, and then your character is replicated in 3rd person. The illusion is sold somewhat because you can see your forearms while in ...

007 ones look stunning. Loved them. The Cyberpunk ones I might be misremembering, so dont count on what Im saying. Hmmm makes me want to go back and replay the game. Such a good mirrors -erm game-

I'm so glad people are noticing this. Watching wifey play the game I'm like DAMN THOSE MIRRORS and she's like what is your problem calm down stop shouting about mirrors. Thank you for helping us mirror appreciators.

while i totally get the realities of it not being viable for everyone i'm very appreciative for devs who still use their own technology that plays to their strengths and stands out from the crowd instead of just using unreal engine

i remember hitman 2 (2018) adding npcs reacting to reflections and really feeling how it changed its spaces. Especially when revisiting Hitman 2016 levels

This game felt AAA in ways I've rarely seen before. I do think it's a bit bloated at times, but I still think they managed to keep the scope in line, instead deciding to allow both artists and devs to flex

For a number of reasons. Raytracing in RE8 has very limited, if any, human reflections. Nowhere near the detail that’s in that mirror. The biggest reason is that RE8 is the last of the multigen releases. There’s a PS4 RE8 and that’s not doing RT anytime soon.

This is actually not the first time in modern RE where they blatantly used a video texture right in front of you without you knowing. bsky.app/profile/nick...

#GameDev While rummaging through the files in #ResidentEvil7 I found this little nugget. The very first moment you are given control, the outside of the car you're driving is a video file. It's a combination of an on-location shot, and a tracked-in composite of the first area.
