We’re not even *close* to running out of good ideas. The issue is smart people’s ideas being systematically persecuted, under-resourced, and blocked from opportunity by fascists. Do not believe propaganda in the “Future Perfect” section of Vox that’s underwritten by Effective Altruism extremists.

This column on Vox is the biggest pile of steaming AI crap I've seen this year. Human's aren't running out of ideas. Instead, those with power and money don't want to listen to ideas that threaten their power and money. Ideas are plentiful. Putting those ideas into action is the hard part.

The reason humans got to a place where we can write articles and posts about AI is that our genetic variation -- our neurodiversity -- is a natural "idea machine". There are always people on the fringes of whatever is currently normal thinking wacky ideas that are sometimes exactly what's needed.

💯 The ethos of the 2020's is perfectly captured by the fact that a few well-connected insiders made a very big mistake against explicit advice from the world's top scientific experts, flushed "an enormous number of lives" down the drain and 👉the news media decided for us that it didn't matter👈.

A reminder to reporters: be thoughtful about the voices you trust, and the conflicts of interest they hold. You can't rely on the judgment or motives of someone who participated in a very big mistake that killed a lot of people to tell you how bad the consequences are later. Journalism 101. 🤨

Yes. I'm certainly not swallowing this pro-AI propaganda from fucking fascists! AI is what is going to destroy new ideas, not help them! bsky.app/profile/call...

WTF is this Vox article even saying? We do have ideas! AI doesn't come up with new ideas! This isn't like me looking at a piece of literature for inspiration, it's just regurgitating the old ideas! We don't need AI! Our minds will find it harder to get new ideas if we use this crap!

And they’re pulling the GenAI/ML bait and switch routine.

Yet another example of using “AI” but mixing up GenAI and other forms of machine learning. The polls they cite about AI attitudes? People are talking about GenAI The examples where AI is working? Non-GenAI machine learning. The latter, more speculative ones? Back to GenAI Fave trick of AI fans

I'm not going to read the article, but I want to say that you're right. The nice thing about cancel culture, or consequence culture, is that it made room for innovation from people who aren't bigots.

I am personally very much not out of good ideas and sadly this attitude of only AI having good ideas has permeated into the pharmaceutical investment sphere, where I've got plenty of substrate that any investor 10 years ago would have been drooling over, but it's just good old-fashioned engineering

The problem I see if that the difference between ideas that get funded vs ones that die is a matter of marketing. It's not enough to have good ideas, you need to sell it. The skills to have a revolutionary idea may not be the same as the skills to get funding to implement it

Pretending we're out of good ideas is a good way to ignore the best idea of all: that, in the arts and humanities anyway, LLMs are inveterate crap generators and should be diligently avoided or treated with extreme skepticism.

This is exactly the problem I have! We already have LLMs smart enough to tell us what to do about climate change, poverty, etc. because they can just repeat back what the experts are saying. The problem has never been technological. It's been getting those in power to willingly sacrifice profits.
