What to do now: find your mod_php/php-fpm servers, patch with urgency (8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, 8.2.35; older versions via your distributor), and NGWAF customers should apply the Virtual Patch. Full analysis from Kelly Shortridge: www.fastly.com/blog/fastlys...

starting to realize that when someone describes software as "opinionated" that means it doesnt work or doesnt work the way youd expect and therefore it sucks. you could just say it "sucks"

This essay by @anildash.com is very much worth reading today: “Many wonder how, or if, the United States will find its way out of authoritarianism. The only possible way is if people are joyfully running towards a better option, not fearfully backing away from the worst of what they face today.”

I've written a remembrance on this day every year for 25 years. This time, it's about how "We are all New Yorkers" is something people across the country (and around the world!) once again believe — but because they're looking *forward*, not back. www.anildash.com/2026/09/11/2...

I feel this deeply. I wish I could have real conversations about the upsides and downsides of these tools with fellow users. On _this_ platform. But I haven't been able to find them. Opposed to the other site, where it's nonstop. So I'm back over there :/

most frustrating thing about the AI discourse, broadly, is that you have folks on one side who use this stuff daily and on the other side, you have folks who are speculating about it in the abstract, making up a technology to get mad at. *imagining* everything from costs to performance to abilities

Nearby me that I can only describe as "uninspired Guy Fieri." Wings+burgers+sandwiches+pizza+pasta with some "fun" names. TBH it makes me respect that the actual Guy Fieri menus are 50% insanity and some of it really works

The hidden secret truth of software engineering is that all code is sin. If you build your dignity on sin you are truly lost brother

Me, personally, I consider it a pretty huge indignity to have an algorithm write my code then turn to others and say "here's my code".

“Hank Green admits to AI use” and I’m furious that my short-form vertical video science-communication-adjacent parasociality content wasn’t produced artisanally by a team of free-range, grass-fed PhDs working off handwritten notes

I don't inherently doubt the reporting that's happening around data center noise, but I also walk by a DC every day I'm in the office when I go to lunch (a DC where my company has colo space) and I don't experience anything. Are these new ones a different or roughshod buildout?

A Norway fan has gone viral for not taking part in their Row celebration after matches and won't do it if they win the World Cup "It’s factually wrong; they didn’t row, they sailed over the Atlantic”

It took a huge team to compile this data, do the investigation, and find these conclusions. There is likely no other place where you will get this level of granularity around how real human beings are watching the World Cup.
