It’s mostly targeted towards traditionally formatted comics but you can also post a vertical scrolling comic. Haven’t decided if I’m going to build a mobile or tablet app yet, but I’m definitely considering it!

Unfortunately I dont have the means to support NSFW content, it's just way too big of a liability for me to take on (I'm the sole developer of the platform) — I researched this topic a lot. :/

this is really awesome! I hope this platform and comics hosted on it stick around for a long time. webcomic hosts come and go and plenty webcomics I read are gone forever. there's a lot of value in making something like this, but it also concentrates a lot of risk and creates a high duty of care.

I hope you meet that responsibility with earnest attention, you give people reasons to trust you, when you need support (legal, financial, maintenance, etc.) you ask for help, and when inevitably you are given opportunities to take advantage of those who put their trust in you, you reject them.

Oooo, yay!! We rrally need placed like this. I miss collaborating on small webcomics on SmackJeeves. Idk if you're planning on implementing a way for people to do collab comics, with multiple people being able to post to one webcomic?

Right now I'm just eating the costs, but I have a Patreon and that's the main way I plan on covering expenses. In a year or so I definitely think I'll be able to break even.

Webcomics are why I became the writer I am today. I've been reading webcomics for decades and I've been enthralled by stories from so many creators in that time. Seeing a new, accessible, anti-AI platform pop up just made my day! Good luck you crazed artists!

Ooh, interesting! Is it good for single panel or one-off comics too, or mainly geared toward long form? Oddly, Malwarebytes is pitching a fit when I try to visit the site. I'm not sure what might be causing that, but something to look into.

Cool app! If I may: having something like “full screen” mode for mobile devices would be nice, currently on smaller / zoomed-in mobile screens you have to scroll past the series title and nav every time to see the full page.

Well shit I might be out of excuses depending on policies. How's it for anti-imperialist, queer themes, nsfw? Sex work as a subject? Like can my sw OCs call themselves a faggot without me having to censor anything?

Ok so like because of the risk of SA and other stuff being portrayed + possible laws slamming down on the site we can't publish outright porn but like... no issue with a full course on sex ed or heavy on flirting? Also no risk on me fueling lgbtphobia yeah

This is so neat! I’m taking a class on Illustration and Comics and plan to share this with them, thank you!

Would love to hear more about why NSFW is a liability? Is this to do with the host this is on (which seems to also be your job...?)? ftr I do love this and hope it succeeds- we need more hosts for webcomics! But also as someone who's been in adult comics for almost 20 years, kinda disappointing.

please please PLEASE add dark mode to your website. i cant even get past landing page with my photophobia and because it relies on images for background the CSS darkmode overrides just don't work :c

I love this site and the opportunity it provides for comic creators such as myself. Is there a way that users can save or like comics so they can return to them later or bookmark/dogear a page on a long-form comic? The likes and or saves can provide analytics for the creators as well.

That’s awesome that you were able to make it free to use for webcomic creators, it’ll really help us a lot as there isn’t a ton of free options for creators. Big thank you to you🥂🫶

I wish you allowed nsfw ;_; porn comics are such an important part of especially queer communities. Porn artists are hounded all over the web, so it's especially sad when not even a creator made space allows us in.

fwiw if you're looking for an alternative that allows NSFW, ComicFury is worth a try. It's a bit more like the old SmackJeeves days, so not a super sleek modern website, but it could work for you if Webcomic Studio isn't the right fit 😊

This is not as helpful a comment as you think it is :') sure there is ONE platform that allows it. It's a fact that NSFW work is getting pushed more and more to the fringes of the web. We're all artists, we shouldn't accept anyone getting thrown under the bus

I agree that it sucks how few options there are. If you happen to be a developer (or an investor?), I think it would be awesome for you to build a platform like this that supports NSFW content. I would gladly support it!

NSFW content comes with a LOT of liability, and this is a free service of which I am the only maintainer. I would love to be able to host this kind of content in the future--I personally have no problem with it--but it may jeopardize plans for creator monetization, so I'm not sure. :/

I get that, but on the other hand: there are already a variety of monetization methods out there. From patreon to ko-fi to plain paypal. It is a decision you have to make, is community, a COMPLETE comics community more important than also having control over monetization.

there is a group of artists out there fighting for NSFW spaces online and even looking into starting their own credit union. I can't remember their name right now, argh but it might be worthwhile to connect to them. I'll try to remember the name....

these platforms have the legal and financial means to support this kind of content, which is awesome. But this really isn't a question about values. even if monetization is off the table, I literally just dont have the means to support this.

As someone mentioned ComicFury is an old mainstay that allows sexually explicit work. There is also flowfo.me that not only permits sexually explicit work, but has means for you to add monetization features, as well.

Giving it a shot and it’s really nice though I think I have a bug, or I don’t understand, the scheduling functions. It seems to make any page I schedule readable immediately.

Sounds awesome! I should put my comic that I’m working on there. Though I have a question. My comic is an action comic that have some pints of blood and stuff that might be a bit disturbing (i.e. scary visuals). Is it okay for me to show it or should I just tone it down?

That's awesome! We did something like this back in the early 2000's but it all kind of got out of hand and we had to fold it up. Glad to see others picking up the torch and running with it.

It’s only one layout for now, ComicFury has way more customization options right now. They’re great! I hope to add more options in the future

Nice, which format is it designed for? I currently make my webcomic in long vertical strips so the current layout I'm using on CF works well along with being "scroll view optimized" if people want to use that format. Will definitely check the site out tho!

I didin't know about this project. I'm glad is going well! Although I'm worried about its future, if it's free now... How are you paying the maintenance costs?

There was once a time when webcomic creators would have shivved one another with a rusty spork for what you are offering for free. For those of us who remember, this is NEWS! :-D

I mean, “I created a successful thing on the internet” is usually followed by “so I sold it to a tech giant for millions” not “so I now offer it for free” So, yeah, it’s pretty fucking great

Love that idea, yeah a way to link atproto identity + follow/subscribe for updates would be super cool
