It's to a big degree the "able-bodied" *women (!) and* men of *all ages* that finance any kind of public health care system, so why exactly should they be excluded? Should they get health care only when they are seriously ill?

I've worked with Medicaid members for over 7 years now. There are virtually no healthy adult, single, non homeless males I talk to. This is all about making it harder for everyone to get approved for and stay on Medicaid. It was tried in my state by previous Gov and denied in court.

What about small business owners? What about pregnant women who are NOT “young?” My husband and I are small business owners. My family has health insurance because of the ACA. Without it, we would NOT be able to afford it. Also, you don’t need health insurance as long as your not pregnant? Fuck!

What these people can't grasp is that some able-bodied people work multiple jobs and STILL need Medicare for healthcare coverage because they don't make enough due to minimum wage being $7.25 and these jobs don't offer affordable healthcare.

Since Medicaid is administered and partially funded by the states, they already have, in many/most? cases, a robust review process in place. If fed funding is cut, states will have to come up with more funding or cut recipients.

Also, you know who gets to decide if someone is “able-bodied“ (as the mom of a disabled young adult, I prefer to use „disabled“ and „non-disabled”)? The government! And it’s a very difficult and lengthy process. So what should disabled people do while they wait to get approved for disability?

Those "young, able-bodied men" are likely working if they are receiving Medicaid. They are just working in a job that doesn't provide benefits for a low wage. If he knew anything about Medicaid recipients in his own state, he'd know that already.

It’s for people who need medical care who could otherwise not afford it. People would not be enrolled unless it was necessary. Yet they don’t want to raise the minimum wage, which would help. Cuts to Medicaid equal unnecessary deaths. Period. They are making a choice for people to die.

Then there are the developmentally disabled and their funded infrastructure the provides programming to help them integrate into society. In the MAGA world these are the untouchables, if they substantially cut medicaid not sure what these folks will do.

I know someone who has a son in the spectrum, he is able bodied, but he doesn’t want to work because he is getting an inheritance sometime.. his cognitive is average.. he doesn’t want to do anything he doesn’t like.. his mom thinks he should get Medicaid/Medicare.. lol

It is difficult to categorize people like this. It could be argued that he is just a lazy entitled kid (wanting to play guitar), or he could really have mental issues. Playing a guitar could actually be a form of self-medication. You'd have to have a doctor weigh in on this one.

87 and lives in daily terror of her assets going one dollar over the $2k limit. You can lose Medicaid if it is over 2k. She had me take her out of my will because she's afraid to inherit something and lose healthcare over it. Nobody is handing Medicaid out like candy (though, imo, we should).

In rural Wisconsin where I am, most able bodied men and women with/without families on snap and Medicaid (BadgerCare) are working. That’s the problem. This system is designed to punish them already, now after these proposals it’s a disincentive to exist.

To find those who are committing disability fraud the government needs to hire more people to investigate. There are people who look healthy but have serious disabilities. It sounds like they plan on making assumptions and basing decisions on superficial information.
