If the citizens REALLY want to reform their PD they need to pass a reform budget to retire a bulk of the existing officers then train the new officers in de-escalation and pay them more AND expect higher standards. With a better trained force you don’t need as many “licensed officers”

Oh ya, for sure. I was in emergency services for 25+ years on the medical side. I saw that a lot. Cops face a ton of abuse and of course deal with real criminals. Many of them start off good, and get jaded, angry, burnt out over time. It’s tough.

Unlike ICE, the LAPD officers are local. They live in LA. Just like the social make up of the city, many in the LAPD are latinos, asian, and women. They understand that these ICE raids are harmful, and unjustified.

LAPD had a string of huge scandals in the 90s and lots of bad behavior during the 2020 protests. But most of the recent stories have been about LASD.

Definitely! They have their issues: racial profiling, bigotry and unlawful use of force. But you see a change. They make efforts to work with the community.

Both LA PD and LA Sherrifs, in general Sherrifs and issues go back to the 1930s, they were founded on a principal of protecting the wealthy and punishing poor and POC.
