Michelle Obama: "No one has the right to sit in judgment of who is American enough. And that's why, folks, we simply don't have the luxury or time to be cynical or complacent."

Unlike DJT, this grand event is not to drive a profit. There are no $M seats, no advertisements, it's not a ppv broadcast, (you could go, you can watch livestream for free). It is an event for the people, (as is the entire campus). It is a true celebration.

What a contrast. The dignity, intelligence, excellence and sophistication of the Obama Presidential Library opening vs. the horrific, low class shitshow at the White House cage fight. Let's just send all those unAmerican maggots back under the rotten log they crawled out from. VOTE

I'd love to see it, unfortunately given what H Clinton and Harris went through she may not win. It feels like this country needs our own version of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission before we can elect a woman or another PoC president.

WHO "is finished, BTW"??!! I rewound it time & time again and I cannot tell whose name she's saying. PS that fake flotus is soooo hateful and ignorant. It is painful to listen to her. 🤦‍♀️

Watching and listening to both Michelle and Barack Obama speak today at the dedication of his beautiful Library made me realize beautiful it was to have a President who was President of all the people not one who talks about hate and lies every time he opens his mouth!

INSPIRATIONAL…the entire event was so inspirational…and exactly, EXACTLY what We The People needed after the debacle on Sunday at The People’s House!!! Let’s get to work and bring our country back!!!

This is never right; however, cherry picking one incident, vs. the countless #'s of cruelty, mistreatment and death that is happening under Trump's DHS is asinine. This is also not the appropriate place for that... how many times have you posted about the current cruelty?

If the sticking point is "legal" then the first question I have is "What defines an 'illegal immigrant.'" Refugees are not "illegals." Nor are asylum seekers. Nor migrants. Nor are those on work visas or green cards. So knowing who you classify as "illegal" is important.

Next question: what is the process by which they can obtain legal status? What pathways do they have in instances where their presence here was not by their own choice? (see the Dreamers). What resources are available to help them become legal citizens?

And finally, let's say you do have someone here "illegally." What is the best and most humane way to deal with. Assuming they have committed no other crimes, are not still afforded the right to due process and protection from cruel and unusual punishment?

Bigoted racist you think it’s being handled better now? The torture of immigrants in these concentration camps DUMfck ? The serving of maggot infested food brown water soured milk? You’re full of crap Magaturd. ICE is trumps SS. GTFH.

What a disheartening thread. 1. Why ascribe to her things done by her husband, let alone things done by her husband 10-18 years ago? 2. Yes, ICE is a racist and renegade agency. It has been that since its hasty creation in the post-9/11 national mass idiocy. 3. No one is a stronger supporter...

... of due process - advocate *for* (the scrupulous observance of] due process - than I, including in the area of immigration & asylum claims. That said, the bad guys - the reactionary forces of Stephen Miller, Kevin Roberts, and all the rest who want to take us back to a pre-FDR [ even Jim Crow]...

Don’t feel sorry for me. I’m cool. I do t pretend to judge Obama by one thing or many things. You can’t please everyone. I’m just happy the Civil Rights Acts protects you better than trump has protected legal immigrants. 🫶🏾

Are you calling me a crybaby because I take issue with a President ordering the murder of a 16 year old citizen with no constitutionally-mandated due process of law? That's your take?

maybe instead going high when they go low, we ought to think of kicking them when they’re down? the north def should have kicked the confederates when they were down after the civil war.

Man, it's like whenever you hear Michelle speak and then Barak, you realize who really is the better speaker. And I still think Barak is one of the best in presidential history!

Such a beautiful ceremony, Michelle really captured it and Bono singing 🎤 🎶 the city of blinding light really captures the moment.

Yesterday's opening of the Obama Presidential Center was an example of what we American's have lost. A President and First Lady who exemplify grace, dignity & strength. We must now fight to bring back that dignity & strength. VOTE BLUE UP & DOWN THE TICKET IN NOV. 2026 & IN NOV. 2028. END THE CHAOS.

🤔 I don’t know about anyone else but I covet both- being as good + decent as President Obama + having a partner as wonderful as Michele Obama who champions and supports so powerfully and masterfully her brilliant husband.

Her entire speech was awe inspiring - filled with hope, love and unity. This opening ceremony -the songs, the speeches, all of it are a much needed infusion and reminder of who we can be again.

Her speeches, IMO, were always better than his. she has the ability to connect with her audience on several levels. She is eloquent and down to earth at the same time. That takes real talent.

Exactly. For all those "I won't vote for X" shitposters, STFU and work your ass off for better candidates to get through the primaries. It's not the Democratic Party's job to present you with a perfect candidate (that doesn't exist, by the way) on a silver platter. Apathy enables Fascism.
