El-Sayed: "To me Medicare for All is not about what it takes away, it's about what it offers: Guaranteed health insurance from cradle to grave."

Let Medicare for All would be an option. Private medical insurance also, an option. Then, lets find out what people prefer. I think we know the answer.

“Medicare” for all would NEVER pass in Congress, BUT it would raise a ton of money for political PACs on both sides arguing about it..if people on left were serious about healthcare, woukd push for “Medicaid” for all that could work within the existing ACA. The ACA was designed to expand Medicaid.

Those eedjit talking heads have been asking that same inane question for half a century. The last country with 'Socialized' Medicine that banned the private market was Canada and they gave that up decades ago. State Sponsored Insurance has never banned private care anywhere at any time by anyone.

Medicare for All in the US would require tens of trillions in additional federal spending over a decade, even after folding in existing public programs. Taxes aimed at high earners/corporations would not close that gap. Payroll taxes, income taxes, or similar would be needed at significant rates.

People who are running for office really need to advertise this more. We are paying for others/foreigners to get what we deserve and we are paying billionaires. The question is where do you want your taxes to go?

Other countries have public and private healthcare, but they have at least universal healthcare. #MedicareForAll The healthcare industry needs to be reviewed from the top to the bottom. Expensive drugs, unaffordable hospital charges, denied claims, etc. 🤔

Medicare for all would be a boon to the us economy. Employers would no longer be shackled to provide benefits and would be able to pay more in salary. This is such a no brainer.

Part D of Medicare is covered by Medicaid for low income seniors and the disabled. I’m a caregiver for a younger onset Alzheimer’s patient who has had Alzheimer’s since his 40’s. If he loses part D, we are even further up a creek financially for him. It’s giving me nightmares.

I completely agree with you that this is a problem and we need Medicaid funded! The new rules surrounding Medicaid are disgusting and unrealistic. Those rules, however, are not SUPPOSED to affect Medicare. (🙃) I often see folks get the two confused, especially those who are young and affluent.

Safety Nets Medicaid are in Peril. Looming annual $1Trillion interest payment on Our National Debt. UareWhatUeat. One oz of prevention is worth a lb of cure. Chronic Inflammation,Insulin Resistance and Excess salts sugars and starches are the Enemy. Bike 10K a day it helps keep the doctors away 😀 👌

America needs and deserves an all inclusive Health CARE System. This congress remains focused on supporting Health INDUSTRY Profiteering. Take the insurance out of health CARE.

Medicare is public insurance that pays for health care. The word “insurance” isn’t the deal-breaker you’re making it out to be—it can mean different things. Health care is provided by people who need to make a living, and Medicare is a mechanism to pay them.

The supplemental Anthem BCBS plan charges $229.00 to cover the 20% not covered by A&B. Someone in congress is allowing these health industry profiteers to fleece seniors and the most vulnerable disabled This is catastrophic health insurance NOT health CARE.

A fair point, but calling Medicare catastrophic insurance is an exaggeration, since that term has a specific meaning. Also, supplemental private insurance is common, even in single-payer countries.

I am already on Medicare & I still believe that we should have universal health care for all. I don't use SANP or HUD, but I still think that both programs should be well financed. I'm retired, but I still think that if Dems were worth a damn, we would have at least a $20 minimum wage.

I have a friend who is going through a serious (but fixable) medical challenge. He is stressed, but has a strong medical team. I made the point to him that, as a Cdn, he doesn't have the added stress of fighting with an insurance company dedicated to finding a way to deny his claim.

Each and everyone one us pays into medicare as line item on our paystubs. Medicare for all eliminates overhead costs like overpaid 5 year and vested insurance execs and board members.

Insurance companies that wanted to get rid of ACA are finding it was more profitable to have many people paying lower rates than it is to have a few paying higher rates and most of those are passed to their employers. Employers are telling staff they will have less coverage and higher deductables

Why are folks not talking about the money Medicare for all would save Americans, corporations, the government? Do folks really know what five trillion dollars a year is not doing for Americans? One million seconds 11 days One billion seconds 31 years One trillion seconds 31,600 years.

Something we don't talk about publicly is how common it is for people to get married - even knowing the marriage isn't likely to last - only because (or primarily because) of health or dental insurance. Maybe this is only common among poor people, but I've known some big earners who've done this.

What does #UniversalHealthcare "take away" other than the fear of dying from a treatable illness because you can't afford treatment or going bankrupt if you do get treatment?

It takes away large corporations’ huge recruitment & retention advantage over small business & entrepreneurs. If your health insurance is independent of your job, you can quit if your manager sucks. You can take a headhunter’s offer b/c $20K more is really $20K more, not $20K - a yr of insurance.

Here's what M4A takes away: Health insurance premiums, copays regular fights over billing, constant hassle with approvals for procedures. M4A is far from perfect, but it would save more than 5% of GNP and put that money right in the pockets of The People. Who would lose? Health Insurance companies

Exactly. I can assure you that preventative care is absolutely less expensive than catastrophic responses to problems you've ignored out of necessity.

Our Reps and Senators receive good pay and some of the best healthcare money can buy. That is proof that they *know* healthcare is essential to have a dignified life. Voting against methods to extend that privilege to all is morally unacceptable.

Look at other G7 nations... they have both. Universal Free Basic Health Care for illness. Private insurance is still for sale... for those who can afford 'extra' coverages, like private hospital rooms, massage therapy, chiropractic care, etc. It's like Economy or Business Class seats on a plane

Here in Belgium, every employee pays 13.07% of their gross salary for social security. Employees also pay a min of 25% on that same salary they pay out. A consultation with a GP costs €33.74 ($39) in 2026. The patient pays a co-payment of €4 to €6 ($5 to $7). The rest is paid by social security.

Please don't use actual Medicare for "Medicare For All". Most seniors can't afford the premiums, it doesn't cover dental or vision, it doesn't pay the whole amount sometimes, and the prior authorizations kill people. If "Medicare For All" uses Medicare, Americans will yearn for the current system.

I'm younger than senior, disabled, on Medicare, and still paying off a $600 medical bill from a hospital that swore it wouldn't charge more than what Medicare paid. I couldn't afford the Medicare premiums, but fortunately I'm poor enough I qualify for Medicaid, which pays my Medicare premiums.

State governments get block grants for Medicaid, so they love paying Medicare premiums so patients don't need to use Medicaid for the full amount of care. I don't think "Medicare For All" could even get away with "Medicare And Medicaid For All," re: that earlier $600 bill neither one paid for me.

Tapper's face reminds me of the look on the CTV interviewer who asked Wab Kinew which tariff had to be removed before US booze would go back on the shelves in Manitoba and Wab replied "All of them". What El-Sayed said is totally outside of Tapper's worldview or at least the worldview of the network.

It would help the cause of single payer healthcare immensely if people would stop quoting statistics that don’t support the cause. CEO pay in the United States is excessive, but health insurance CEO pay affects US healthcare statistically zero. We can afford it, we already overpay for healthcare

We can afford single payer. In fact, we pay a trillion dollars a year more than we should be for healthcare compared with other OECD countries. If we only spent half of what we are spending now, we would still be paying far more than other developed nations, and far more per person.

That's the thing - you want us to embrace AI? Ensure we don't starve or suffer in the process. Guaranteed basic income & universal healthcare. Unchain us from wage slavery, and we'll cheer as AI, robots, and other tech improvements free more of us from it.

We don’t want health insurance, we want healthcare. Insurance providers are nothing more than middle men, driving up costs and den claims.

As long as citizens lose their homes & half of bankruptcies filed have to do with medical bills we are not on par with the rest of the civilized world. Other countries run their medical programs very successfully for decades so enough with making socialize medicine the bogeyman. We look stupid.

No he should not have brought Israel into the discussion. Though it’s true, many countries including all of Europe have universal healthcare- why confuse the point? It’s not abt Israel. Healthcare is a local issue.

I just started Medicare this year, and it's costing us more per month for two people than we ever paid for a family of five with employer-funded health insurance. I just hope that those who clamor for M4A don't end up getting reamed.

That’s b/c 1) You were never paying for 5. You were paying for 1 1/2 while your single & childless coworkers paid for the kids & half your spouse; 2) it wasn’t “employer funded”—they bought it w/$$ you made; & 3) you paid for it by not leaving for higher pay with a rival.

It was a great place to work -- 34 years with steady growth in career opportunities, relocations fully paid for, airline miles -- I could go on. 100% of my SS check goes to Medicare and the supplement (plus more out of pocket), my husband is paying for his entire premium OOP. 1/

Fortunately, we entered the workforce being told SS wouldn't exist when we retired, so we saved accordingly. Any SS we get is gravy, but we're the lucky ones who could save for retirement. Others can't, and that'll be catastrophic. 2/

With all due respect… So what? You’re describing a Boomer lifestyle that vanished for most under HW Bush & the rest under Shrub. White collar professions no longer pay enough to cover a house payment & childcare, much less retirement savings. If you ask for a raise, they say it went to insurance.

Just honestly think back & count how many times you probably could have gotten a better job or started your own business but didn’t b/c you’d lose benefits. Health insurance is a massive suppressor of entrepreneurship & mobility.

I get Medicare, it costs me $202 per month. I pay $40/mo for my Eliquis and $0 for all of my other medications. Doctors and Specialists are $0 copay and deductible is $1500. I was paying $320 per month for my employer plan with a $5000 deductible.

OUR CURRENT HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IS BUILT FOR INSURANCE COMPANIES/DME/ PHARMACY BENEFIT MGRS (PBMs) TO MAKE MONEY…….HEALTHCARE IS A BUSINESS……NOT A UNIVERSAL BENEFIT FOR ALL IN SOCIETY……just think how innovative and prosperous we all would be without worry of paying for healthcare

I’m currently uninsured. I lost my Medicaid cuz I got a job (finally) but they don’t offer benefits, no healthcare. I “missed” open enrollment. So that means I can’t get healthcare coverage until November. But there’s only one insurance policy that covers what I need. Goddamn healthcare capitalism

Why is the concept of socialized medicine so hard for Americans to grasp? Jake Tapper looks like a dog being shown a card trick. Canadians have it, the French, the Irish, the British, the Germans, the Spanish, Japanese, Italians...

24 other nations have universal healthcare, 3 of them in the third world, why not "The richest nation in the world"? Racial hatred, and hatred of the poor are the reason why, as are the red states that live in the past, and will never change.

But think of all the people whose current job it is to deny you care, trip you up on the rules, and fight your appeals! Think of all the claims adjusters and middle managers. Think of the executives who still have mortgages to pay on their second and third homes! What about all THEY would lose?

What people actually want is medicaid coverage not medicare ,medicare is still very expensive unless you have a medi/medi plan. But I think they use medicare for all as just an example. Like other countries you have a baseline healthcare plan that's paid for by taxes get a supplemental for extras.

North Dakota does not have voter registration. When you get your ID from the DMV, you show all the legal documents and the poll workers scan your ID to confirm everything. ND is exempt from SAVE Act, cuz apparently, as a ruby red state (on the north border), there couldn’t be any corruption. 🙄

Why isn’t that a conversation that we have? Healthcare for all from cradle to grave. We can give tax breaks for 10,000 billionaires but can’t guarantee healthcare for all citizens? Think how much the country could save with healthy productive workers, less costs in emergency rooms?

This admin remind me of ignorant middle school bullies copying behaviors of the dope dealer and criminal kids instead of the smart serious kids and athletes… becuz of their physical & mental inadequacy. Like fatso emulating Putin instead of following intelligent Scandinavia’s happiest peoples govt’s

I'm absolutely pro-union - but in the end, any among their memberships who are against universal healthcare are also against the American UNION. As the employer foots half the bill for their premiums, if not more - I suggest they argue to get their wages back AND THEN SOME

America... the only country where more people are employed in health care insurance than actual health care... and ditto for the money 😞

The fact that Republicans/voters don't want ppl to be taken care of medically is deeply disturbing. More disturbing is they don't realize it is they themselves who will suffer or die bc of that, more than anyone else.

Why still keep the insurance part? Having insurance means there is a layer of organisations taking their cut. As far as I understand, that's what makes healthcare in the US so expensive. Just pay for healthcare. People can have health insurance if they feel they need it, but most won't.

He is talking about potential affordability. What he is not talking about is healthcare delivery which is entirely different from affordability. Yes, affordability is a key issue in our system, but delivery is a bigger issue with an aging population suffering from costly chronic diseases.

The low income people who are against universal healthcare are not against it for themselves they are against it for everyone else. They would rather pay more for worse than allow those they consider lesser than them to receive the same level of care.

I don't think it has to be the end of private health insurance. Private health insurance can become supplemental insurance. At least in the beginning. A lot of people will lose their jobs if we totally get rid of private health insurance.

It was the same in Europe when they closed the concentration camps. Those they didn’t hang lost their jobs. Maybe that system needs to die and people need to find jobs in a less abusive industry.

This guy is *very* good his answers are instinctive, wondering how far he could go tbh! Also, give Tapper a break, that's the question he had to ask, but he also teed up AES for the answer!

There are 1000 ways to frame the question. Tapper's is one. My spouse and I pay out of pocket for cobra rn and have healthcare debt so I'm a bit sensitive about this 'but how will we protect big insurance' angle.

Yeah, but the that's the status quo, and lots of your fellow citizens feel happy about that because they keep voting for people who refuse to change it, it's not a personal failing on the part of a journalist to reflect that reality?

Technically, #M4A would protect from conception to death, bc a child's mother would have coverage for public Healthcare for pre-natal care, including the initial pregnancy test 🤷‍♂️ Americans already pay to fund govt health-care and still buy expensive insurance for worse outcomes M4A is better 4 ALL

If we have money for gold statues and gold ballrooms and millions invested in cage fighting and failed country fairs and failed wars we can afford universal health care. The. End.

Do you have any idea how much we pay for private insurance compared to every other country in the world? You could combine the next several counties together and we'd still be paying more and getting less per capita.

It doesn’t take away anything. That’s another insurance industry/republican lie. People can still pay for over-extensive coverage beyond the public coverage if they want to. They’d be fools, though. But fools elected a rapist felon draft dodging traitor as president, so…

Even where the equal of MC for All exists, like France, the price of the private extras comes into line as well. A French friend of mine broke both ankles skiing in Switzerland. His 17€/month 'extra' policy covered an air ambulance back to Paris, and 3 months of 2 times weekly PT visits at HOME!

Good to know. It’s going to take a whole lot of educating for Americans to come around. Tragically, I don’t see that happening in my lifetime. Republicans have strategically dumbed-down Americans to the point that it’ll take many decades to change, if ever.

"You have to wait in line for 6 months to even be seen for a sprained ankle. My cousin's dog walker's sister's boyfriend is from Canada and that's what he said" The amount of times I've seen this crap on Social media is astounding.

Somebody needs to run the numbers on time/$$ spent choosing plans, trying to find an in-network provider, fighting over pre-approval, etc, & on how many providers quit because of insurance red tape. I haven’t seen a Dr in years b/c everyone on my plan has a waitlist for new pts & quits b4 I get appt

When was the last time MFrs at CNN ask where’s con or Trump health plan? God I stopped watching CNN 6 years ago. I was onto them they were on corp tit.

We will NEVER have universal healthcare. Get over it. We have 341 MILLION people, even if they tax us a 100% we can't afford it, and they know it...they just use that lie to get elected. Canada only has 42 million people and they struggle to afford it. It's their biggest budget item.

The EU has 450 million people covered. More people actually makes it easier, because of the much larger tax base. The reasons we don't have it are because the insurance industry takes 20% and they're a massive lobby, and one political party has been scaring people calling it communism for 50 years

Or maybe we made a lot of enemies fighting everyone else's wars, and need the protection. Our priorities are fine. Democrats decimate the military, we're stuck rebuilding it. There are a lot of bad people in the world.

The problem is, when government gets involved in anything, prices go up, happens every time because companies want those tax dollars. I've seen the waste in government contracts, we saw it with Obamacare, NGOs, homelessness... billions wasted, nothing accomplished.

Inflation is up under Trump and debt is skyrocketing, just as happened with every R since 1980. The vast majority of debt is owned by GOP potuses. ACA also got tens of millions of people insured, and cost increases slowed. If you don't think that's an accomplishment I don't know what to tell you.

He's roaring mad because he's a Republican shill who hates progressives, and even though JT is a Never Trumper it's important to understand how much he deeply hates progressive ideals and this is why we should never reach out to voters like him because it only dilutes the Democratic party vision.

Medicare for All would be a boon to the entrepreneurial economy and greatly improving job matching. The reason corporate interests are against it is that the threat of losing health insurance keeps a lot of people in jobs they hate. MfA: best way to win the large "hate my job" constituency.

Fuckin’ tell ol’ Taptap, to his face! Tell me what’s radical about that? 99% of all other first world industrialized countries have fucking Universal Healthcare - why we don’t have it here?🤔

The same progressive carrot thrown out everytime by the Bernie minions and their proteges...that has NO CHANCE IN HELL of passing any time soon. And they know it! But its a good tag line to get the kiddies excited at rallies. And then it just fades away after the election...

The key to a great democracy and capitalist society is a happy, healthy, wealthy, and educated middle class. That is the goose that lays the golden egg. The GOP would have us move back in time to the old feudal lords, robber barons, or oligarchs. livelovecycle.squarespace.com/blog/free-ma...
