Warren: "This has been their argument every time -- they cut taxes and say, 'Ultimately it's really going to pay off for you.' What's happened every time? The academics study it very carefully and say, 'What really happened is the richest people got richer and everybody else got left behind.'"

Imagine being in this current situation where the only thing that can save the USA is regulations..., which requires decent honest politicians with dignity and intelligence; which requires a very large, and somewhat enlightened voter base. Wow, the USA is fuk'd.

"The richest people got richer & everyone else got left behind" is such a ridiculous euphemism. Call it what it is: THEFT of the peoples' labor to continually further enrich the insatiably greedy.

I've long called it crony capitalism, defined as: socialized costs, privatized profits The fthy rich crony capitalists buy politicians not only for govt contracts, but also: -corporate welfare in the form of subsidies & tax breaks -blocked & eliminated regulations -suppression of wages & benefits

You don't need an MBA to realize the " trickle down theory" of economics the Republican'ts love is about as effective as the rhythm method of birth control.

Tru dat. Cutting taxes = worse public services, poorly maintained infrastructure (which the billionaires don't use, but their businesses do), and a populace left poorer than before.

And they never cut spending, they just add it to the charge card. That behavior is unsustainable. I am so sick and tired of politicians (from both sides) touting tax cuts as the answer to everything. I don't want to hear this until we manage to at least balance the budget better yet, have a surplus

Sometimes I remember we could have had her as president already, and I get real fuckin mad

The thing I like about Warren was that she was a die hard reagonite till she worked in the trenches of the public sector and saw what the policies she supported actually looked like and changed her tune. I’m sure it’s more complicated than that but it’s a damn good story.

FLORIDIANS! Listen Up! This is why we have Amendment 3. To make the rich richer. A3 lowers the cap for non homesteaded and commercial property from 10% to 5%. Cutting taxes on mansions (large primary homes), rental and commercial property. Floridians will pay more to make up the difference.

Isn't there a HUGE gap between AI spending & the time to make AI truly profitable (ROI)? It will take 3+ years to build the DCs to house all the AI servers. Super productivity can't occur without the DCs. The bills will come due SO much sooner. It doesn't add up. Even with Trump's [bad] math...

The American people have sooo many burns on their hands from touching sooo many hot stoves because we are definitely not one-trial learners.

Data centers won't create jobs Back in the day when they were rolling out modern telephone exchanges (essentially specialist computers) they said they could be run by one man and his dog The dog was to keep the man off the equipment and the man was to feed the dog!

The US has the largest income inequality Gap in the G7, and that gap has historically grown faster under Republican presidential administrations than under Democratic ones. Source: Brooklyn Institute for Social Research (BISR).

Trickle up is how to have a healthy economy. CEOs on 5 year=vested contracts based on company stock price has conditioned leaders to only look at short term company wealth. Pay the bottom a living wage, they have money to purchase goods and services, creating long term company health/profits.

Need pre-Thatcher taxation but no deductions, combined with Woodrow Wilson-style taxation but no deductions. Need 100% tax on millionaires but no deductions and need taxes on religion and NGOS. We need high corporate taxes with no deductions and Nordic taxes on ordinary people but no deductions.

Correct bring back that Republican Eisenhower 91% marginal tax rate Let the rich pay and bring back the middle class versus the continual class war on the middle class, working class, and the poor for the rich via corrupt prostitute politicians

I’d love it if the system worked like that, and I hope we can make it work like that. One thing that worries me about doing that is suddenly that wealth absconds into oversea pockets which promise to protect it.

Which is why in addition there needs to be a tiny 0.1% wealth tax that requires them to identify all their wealth, no matter where it exists :-)

She’s written six books that sold well. And senators make something like $175,000 per year and she served for 23 years She has a degree speech pathology and later a law degree She’s a former law professor. So obviously she is smart, works hard, and is a high achiever.

She’s actually written 12 books and 100 articles for personal profit whilst collecting a government salary. With so much free time to write on the tax payers dime - I wonder why she hasn’t bothered to read Project 2025 and written a defensive strategy to protect her constituents rights by now.

So if you wrote 6 best selling books while working full time and accumulated millions over decades we could call you “corporate”?

A landmark RAND Corporation study calculates that approximately $79 trillion has been redistributed upward from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1% between 1985 and 2023. Add ANOTHER 25 TRILLION spent on the Military. AND WE HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT.

The money never trickles down because the rich don't want it to. They're human, like the rest of us. Not angels, not unicorns, just ordinary people with the same temptation to do what they want and ignore others.

Not even giving everyone $5000 dollars would make up for eating less, buying less, traveling less, that the republicans have foisted upon the people. Disastrous policies, tariffs born by the people and never redistributed to them have consequences.

I remind you that the British did a fifty year study of trickle down economics and found that it has never worked. NEVER!

That's because when they say that, they're really talking TO the rich. It does pay off for them. Like when Trump says the country is richer than ever, and everyone is making a lot of money.. they are.. him and his rich buddies... No one else.

She’s CORRECT but not a BRO so… yadda, yadda. Old enough to remember when following facts advanced your cause. Just turn on Hallmark where it’s ALWAYS Christmas, or about to be. That’ll glaze you over but good.🕺🪩

Exactly. The billionaires & corporations are greedy little 💩. They most certainly are not going to let ANYTHING trickle down to those of us that they perceive as worthless

I like that we need academics to tell us the obvious. Yes, you can convince the uneducated those things. The real problem that everyone ignores is that government has made us choose between them and ourselves. And making us choose a group of people to hate and sell out. Her included.

GHBush called the Laffer Curve & Supply-side economics, "Voo Doo Economics" before Reagan picked him as his VP. Now under Trump we have "Voo Doo Economics 2.0" Cruel, mean and heartless.

And the country loses substantial tax revenues each time the GOP awards its mega-wealthy donors & corporations these huge tax cuts. The GOP awards those mega tax cuts each time they have the votes to do so, amounting to trillions of dollars in tax cuts for corporations and the über wealthy.

Robbing the poor and rewarding the rich. This is the best analysis, that l found, of the 1BBB to show the transfer of wealth by tRump's policies.😵

If the benefits of tax cuts go only to the wealthiest, why should ordinary people still believe this line of reasoning?

Dems frequently introduce “expert’s opinion” into conversations about common truths. No wonder voters feel Dems are talking down to them. Just say “everyone knows” Liz… evidentiary rules don’t apply here.

I don't understand how people believe trickle-down. Giving money to corporations does not stimulate demand. It's a terrible business decision in that situation to pump money into capacity when the demand for it doesn't exist in the marketplace.

Hopefully, Diaper Donnie will be the last one to direct this dismal flop sequel. The whole world knows it doesn’t work - but that doesn’t matter to the billionaires who own the GOP. The crazy thing is, would they even NOTICE a billion or two less? Of course not.

She was always my first choice. I love Kamala but I think it was big mistake on the Democrats choosing her instead considering how racist this country is. A white woman could have maybe won a black woman stood no chance.

I repeat once more - #Trump & his cronies will never leave the White House willingly when their time is done. They & the entire GOP are bound together forever in a criminal conspiracy which - should they lose power - would see them all jailed & their assets seized. Expect a #coup-d'état

Yep, we rarely get anything back from the GOP over the years. Yes we got those Pandemic funds, but under a democrat we would have received more and those funds were mostly a money grab by fake non profits like the NFL. Real small businesses and non profits never received those funds. But the MLB did

The problem is, there is no enforcement mechanism from govt. Congress cuts taxes on the condition that corporations create jobs, but when they don't nothing happens. CEOs use $ from tax cuts to buy back stock, which increases their own compensation when stock price goes up.

And then the Rs cut ads saying a D "voted to raise taxes." Yes, they probably did. They voted to raise taxes on millionaires and billionaires. But because the Rs fix the system, what happens is cuts for the highest incomes and increases for the rest of us. It just makes you want to scream.

There’s real research behind this. A study of major tax cuts for the rich across 18 countries over 50 years found higher inequality, but no significant boost to growth or employment. “Every time” is too broad—but the larger pattern is hard to dismiss.

Warren is right. Now clock who "you" is in "it will pay off for you." Not the bottom 90 percent. The pitch talks to us and pays them: public money steered to the top, and the payoff we are promised never arrives because it was never meant for us. #ChangeTheNarrative

Stop with the "academics study if very carefully..." Just say it, no need to cite your sources. Believe me, people know that the rich are getting richer and the rest are struggling, they don't need to be instructed. This is politics not Harvard's faculty lounge.

I agree. But what happened to @warren.senate.gov promise to tax the rich when Dems were in office? What happened to Medicare for all who wanted it. We all wanted it. Did they even come up? We have to DEMAND they do. And fuck Student Loan forgiveness other countries have free or supplemented college

This is like Charlie Brown & Lucy playing football. The same lies, the same platitudes, the same fake solutions & the same phonies from the two right-wings of The Party. George Orwell was a seer & a time traveler.

Warren administration has a nice ring to it. She’s smart, caring, dedicated and helped set up the CFBU. But this country hates women so we cant have nice things.

It started with the absurd Laffer curve being bandied about to justify cutting taxes during the Reagan admin. It has never been shown to apply to the real world. In fact the opposite effect has been seen time after time. Revenue goes down when taxes are cut. Duh!

These things will create jobs though! Imagine all the cities we will have to re-build inland, and all the new climate refugees we will have to relocate. Entire cities could be wiped out by wildfires and… woah! What an opportunity for jobs!

That’s when the People tell the government: “No, we will take those results now!” “We want those results first! And with our spending, the rich can get richer in time.” “Ultimately, it’s going to pay off for you!”

How many times do we have to debunk "trickle down"? As Paul Krugman said, "zombie ideas" live forever because they serve the interests of the rich and powerful.

Trickle-down theory (thoroughly proven to be false) is an economic idea promising that tax cuts and financial benefits for the wealthy and large corporations will stimulate investment and growth, eventually benefiting everyone in society.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That old saying has always been true. Too much greed and grifting going right in front of eyes.

I love it when a Congressional multi-millionaire telld me her tax cuts mean higher taxes for me to pay for because "academics" say so. 2 insults in one.

Agree, the one blemish on Warren that I have always had trouble with is that she supported Suze Orman's debit card that was claimed to build credit. It, and so is Suze herself, a total defunct scam with high fees and DEBIT cards do not build credit.

absolutely correct. a good way to get a sense of the bubble that has been created by among other thing - bad tax policy favoring the super wealthy - is to look at a video showing the richest people since 1900. The amount of concentrated wealth currently is unprecedented. A wealth tax must be imposed

And then they wonder why no one shed a fucking tear for the health care CeO (whose decision to use alogrithm denied 90% of the claims) who got gunned down and people cheered and Bill Maher proved what a bitch he is by lecturing us (I don’t listen to sell outs and whiny brats like bill is

The fact that Republicans were able to sell “trickle down economics” and people bought it without saying, “Wait. If I do all the work, why should I be happy with a ‘trickle’?” should tell us all we need to know. Too many Americans are willing to buy whatever bullshit their team is selling.
