Minnesota Republican state Sen. Bill Lieske: "We were trying to have a chickenpox party. We had some kids that we know that had chickenpox, and I was trying to get my kids there, because the chickenpox vaccine is close to an mRNA vaccine ... do the research yourself."

As a kid who had chickenpox, because vaccines weren’t available yet, I hate that guy with the fire of 1,000 suns. I’m glaring at him with my shiny, new shingles vaccine.

"When you hear the word vaccine, you think you're going to have immunity the rest of your life..." Sure, if you're a fucking moron that didn't pay attention in school, of course you would not understand how vaccines work.

If your government passes a law that might lead to your death (like the draft sending you to Vietnam, for instance) that is worth fighting against. But a law that leads you to preserving your health and life is a problem? Seriously?

Look around at the number of seniors who are alive today. Look at how old they are. How do you think that happened? VACCINES! MRNA vaccines have been around for DECADES! What is the problem with accepting what your eyes can clearly see?

A chickenpox party? Brilliant. Why protect children with a proven vaccine when you can deliberately expose them to a potentially dangerous virus? And the chickenpox vaccine isn’t mRNA. Do your own research apparently means skipping biology and consulting Facebook University. What an idiot.

When I was a kid, they had chickenpox parties. That was before the vaccine existed. Why would you put your kid through that when you can just get them a shot?

That’s thinking out of the dark ages. They don’t realize or admit that children died from the pox. and I lost friends, 60 yrs ago I and my siblings had it and we were miserable. I lost lost a baby sister that was still born because my mother was infected while pregnant.

Be sure to clearly remind your children throughout their lives where they can remember that when they are 50 and get shingles. They can remember good old dad and his chickenpox party. Anybody that takes advice from a politician about healthcare is an idiot.

As someone who attended a chickenpox party & then had my 1st shingles outbreak at 30, learn to love the feeling of your skin being on fire because you can’t even get access to the shingles vaccine until you are 50

Ummm…

As I type this I am suffering from a kidney stone. The stress from the stone has also triggered a shingles outbreak b/c my parents decided to take me to a chickenpox party in the 80s instead of the brand new vaccine. I am 43 & this is my 5th outbreak. I’m not eligible for the vaccine until 50

I get it. I’m sorry you have to deal with that. I truly am. I’ve just had my fill of stupid people. Was I being hyperbolic? Yeah. Guilty as charged. I apologize.

Research means looking at the first entry on Google and if it says what they want to hear, that's enough research.

Ignorant people that enjoy the protection of vaccines that their parents gave them yet they are willing to expose their own children.

And someday, those kids will thank their ignorant parents for the terrible cases of shingles they'll all get as adults because of their chickenpox - if they survive. #VaccinesSaveLives

I had a friend in high school whose mother had German measles when she was pregnant. Her daughter was born deaf. These things are now preventable! You just have to not be stupid.

The Measles Party I went to was a bit different....it started with putting my car keys in a fishbowl and then we got naked. Haven't had the measles since!

That guy's kids should be taken away from him... there ARE NO mRNA chickenpox vaccines, currently. They're all live-attenuated vaccines. This means they use a weakened, live version of the varicella-zoster virus to trigger an immune response; "immunizations" - exactly what he claims they're NOT.

My parents were very concerned about me not having had Rubella by the time I became an adult: I have an older cousin who is legally blind and struggles with a few other health issues caused by my aunt getting Rubella during her pregnancy. I got it eventually. Then the #vaccine was developed. Hurray!

Chickenpox vaccine and an mRNA vaccine are "close" in the sense that they have the word "vaccine" in common. By the way, parents, chickenpox virus is what causes shingles.

My kids were vaccinated, still got chicken pox. Milder cases. My DOCTOR wanted to send her four year old to my house. I said no. Even though the cases were mild, they were still awful.

I had the chicken pox as a kid, as there was no vaccine yet. I was miserable for a week, and at one point, my fever was so high that my parents had to put me in a cold tub, screaming and crying. Don't do this to your kids.

My ex had a chicken pox party for our kids. The neighbors kids had chicken pox, so she invited them over for a play date. Unfortunately, I had never had chicken pox until a week after my kids got them....

The chickenpox vaccine is a live virus vaccine, in use since 1995. Not mRNA. Before it: more than 4 million cases, 10,500 to 13,500 hospitalizations and 100 to 150 deaths a year. Do the research yourself, he said. Done.

I think you are thinking of Mumps. If an unvaccinated adult male gets mumps their scrotum can swell to the size of a grapefruit causing their balls to atrophy. It really should be publicized more as at one time this was common knowledge.

Pre-MMR, I remember my mom telling me if someone had the mumps at a party the men would immediately stampede for the exit. We really need to make the men insist their kids get the MMR.

He’s not wrong that the chickenpox is similar to the mRNA vaccine, which is what’s so maddening: the vaccine gives you the protection *without the being sick part*

If people want to die from diseases that we’ve already successfully fought with vaccines, I say “good riddance.” Don’t get vaccinated and hopefully you won’t have to worry about it for much longer. I’m so tired of stupid people

What are they saying? They think the c pox vax is "close" in style to an mRNA vaccine (it's not based on mRNA, and "close to" means nothing here, other than it's a vaccine) and so they'd rather let their kids get the pox? Yep - setting them up for shingles!

Dr. Internet is as good of a doctor as a barber used to be. Or even a witch. "Tail of a lizard, hair of a bat, feather from an owl". Hocus pocus mother f*cker.

When Republicans say "do the research" they mean google something and look at unqualified searches that only validate your "ignorant opinion"

If your kid suffers a nasty fall out of their treehouse, do you take them to the emergency room for an X-ray of their rapidly swelling leg or do you do your own research & try to diagnose & treat at home? X-rays put out radiation you know. You trust the ER docs? Then trust your pediatrician.

Oh yeah, expose them to the virus that can come back decades later as shingles. In your deep scientific research did you read about shingles jackass? Even a mild case of shingles is excruciating.

Do what research yourself? Because unless you're going to a university, earning a graduate degree, getting a job at a lab, developing a vaccine & then conducting a study, you are going to have to trust those who already did the fucking research. Vaccinate your kids jackass.

"close to an mRNA vaccine"...as in they are both vaccines?!? The varicella vaccine was invented in the 80s...LOOOOOOONG before mRNA vaccines were a thing.

Seeing the comments here, did you fucking idiots forget that chicken pox is less serious on children than getting it late in life? Your bipartisan mind rape is impressive. Even if the kid is vaccinated they need to be exposed otherwise they might get brain swelling.

You are a special kind of abuser to expose your kids to a dangerous pathogen unnecessarily. I just had my 6th mRNA Covid booster and not a single side effect, ever. mRNA is curing cancer; it's a quantum leap in medical science. MAGA is seriously stunted, developmentally.

I get a bad reaction every time I get the seasonal booster, & am thankful the vaccine is working to create an immune response. Can't imagine how ill the actual virus would make me feel. Yay science!

Everyone should do their own research. Spend 3 years and several thousand dollars on a biology degree. Follow that up with a couple of years and more money on a master's degree specialising on microbiology, then 3-5 more years (don't forget the money) on a PhD focusing on a specific issue.

The "Do your own research" crowd has no idea how to actually do any research. Do not listen to those kinds of people. Listen to the professionals. You know, the people who ACTUALLY do the research.

Can’t wait until one of these chucklefucks get some kind of deadly disease and the “cure” is an mRNA type vaccine. Watch how fast they roll up their sleeves.

I got chicken pox just before I was supposed to get vaccinated because some dipshit sent their kid to daycare with it. I got lifelong allergies to my most beloved animals and foods because of it. Hope these guys like memorizing all the codewords for "egg"!
