It was this month, October, in 1959 when Robert Zimmerman started using the stage name Bob Dillon at the Ten o’clock Scholar in Minneapolis. He’d just arrived from Hibbing for his first year at the University of Minnesota and was trying to make a (new) name for himself at the folk clubs of Dinkytown

Hennepin County Library has a nice shot of the exterior from 1961 - after Dylan left town. It shows the same sunny window but you can see some changes to the Scholar's sign. digitalcollections.hclib.org/digital/coll...

well, I never expected to be published in a Stanford journal, but the McKnight Foundation asked me write my thesis to the philanthropic world after the MN ICE surge: when there is an emergency, just... give money to people on the ground doing the actual work. as fast as possible. radical, I know.

The parade started with art cars and then Brass Solidarity Band. Brass Solidarity practices at George Floyd Square, and they had a float (which I tried to take a picture of and failed) that's a miniature GFS. You can see it at the end of this video. bsky.app/profile/baal...

never has minneapolis needed to celebrate the sun coming more than at the end of winter 2026. ICE are not gone completely, but we still won, and it was incredibly cathartic to see this ceremony at mayday about protecting our neighbors, grounding why we did this work. i love this city

This isn't great photographically, but for bird lovers, it's quite a sight! I took this in Titusville, Florida. In the photo, you can see Great Egrets, a Wood Stork, Roseate Spoonbills, Snowy Egrets, White Ibis, and 2 alligators. #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfTheMonth #birds #nature #photography

Please don't think anything is back to normal in Minnesota. Nothing is normal. I know we’re strong. Don’t know if it’s enough. If you don't live here, your Minnesota friends may tell you that it's going to be okay but I think a lot of that is them being nice so you won't worry. It's bad here.

Florida Rep. Cory Mills mocking the crowd with “ICE baby, ICE” isn’t just cringe, it’s revealing. He’s joking about an agency that tears families apart & points guns at neighbors. Treating terror like a punchline tells you exactly how little they value our lives and our fear.
