A little tip - this isn't for developers, we all know this... but fans? When a developer you claim to really like and respects makes a post about their game being on sale? It's not the time they want to hear your personal hang-ups on why you hate their game... it's not. You can just not post.

Absolutely. It’s one of those “Hey there’s this guy trying really hard and putting effort into something creative, but it’s going slowly. Let’s kick them while they’re down.”

I also can’t stand when people complain about that style of self-promotion. People, not only to folks have to pay the bills and need people to buy their games, some of their fans with limited budgets might have been waiting for that sale.

hey haters, if you really want to prove a point, buy a few more copies of the game for friends and loved ones and see if they hate it to scientifically validate your claims! the devs just won't be able to recover! they'll never make a game again!

I think that if your game is “bad”, people should just not buy it? I mean, why bother you know? Why get here hating on the creator and stressing yourself if you could just ignore it entirely and follow up your life you know? Wanna hate on it? Do so on your account, not on the dev’s post

just yesterday someone popular who really likes to "épater le bourgeois" wrote a tweet explaining that Meta should BAN games like the one he linked because according to him, they aren't VR/good enough. It turns out he was completely wrong and the tweet was deeply offensive and a waste of time :D

I have blocked more people on this thread... but it makes sense. I am now in the side of your parents on thanksgiving who were explaining to you, you have no social graces and saying you love and respect someone is not the same as showing it. Or y'all can't read.

It is crazy the amount of posts like this I have attracted. People absolutely seething in rage and stupidity, ignoring what I have written and just want to be mad... All brand new accounts. I block and only mention here - block. Block We don't let this pass for discussion here. It needs no reply

people like those two are insane. there's a time and a place for things like this, if you're not satisfied with just leaving a negative review on Steam and moving on then you gotta do some deep soul searching and rethink your priorities.

Any complaints could be shared on a Steam review and hope the devs read it. Or even send a polite and thoughtful message. But blindly seething on a post notifying that their game is on sale seems like the mature thing to do. How exhausting.

There’s truly wild subtext in their arguments of “but the PEOPLE need to know the TRUTH”— like the thing they are mad about is some Very Important Information for society as a whole. A holy mission of illumination. It’s intense to see.

In the same breath—what passes for "reviews" on Steam et al from the general public is too often like verbal abuse. Not like we are talking products costing megabucks. I don't know why it's given the energy that it is—well, I do—unwarranted sense of entitlement—it's just very nasty to see.

I think this reason is why a decent amount of game devs in the industry seem to avoid social media. Some gamers see devs as an outlet to get what they want in the game they play.

REMEMBER, fans means you already like this studio and their games, so if they're offering their work for less, put out how much you like them already first, and leave the smaller issues and wishes for later 🙏 These individual game studios aren't mega rich corporations.

“If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all” - my kindergarten teacher That’s how far back that lesson was taught. And it’s so very disheartening and concerning it’s seemingly so difficult to listen and practice lol my goodness.

I see this a lot on Instagram. When devs make a post about an event or merch or whatever there's ALWAYS some a**hole in the comments complaining about a game of theirs, saying "no one cares" about what the dev posted, or demanding stuff to be added. It's so annoying!
