Please understand that Shohei Ohtani has pitched 61 innings this year and allowed a total of 5 earned runs. And he's batting .300, slugging .521, and leading the National League with a .419 OBP. An elite pitcher being an elite batter is just insane.

I am a Giants fan. They are my black & orange ride or die. Even in this very down year. I have to be honest, even if it hurts to admit… Shohei may be the greatest player to ever play the game. A tip of my dusty Giants cap to Shohei.

I am a Milwaukee Brewers fan. Have been since I was 12 in 1987. We are in a crazy era of success relative to our payroll. Ohtani is extradimentional. Our window is narrow.

Imagine the sheer talent of the japanese baseball league if you flaunt over Ohtani so much! Japan has been a surprise in football (soccer) in the last decade aswell! They surged past A LOT of nations in terms of quality and placed themselves comfortably in the top 20 rankings globally. Powerhouse! 🇯🇵

For what the Dodgers are paying him, he should be a combination of Lou Gerhig, Ted Wiiliams, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Cy Young, and Sandy Koufax. Maybe throw in Wiilie Mays, Greg Maddux, and Mickey Mantle.

A whole bunch of pitchers could hit. Drysdale, Grenicke, Wes Ferrell, Bob Lemon, Madison Baumgartner, and of course the Babe. A Two-Way player could have come along as a position player years earlier. Shohei Ohtani cannot be the only one. Every team should learn to develop Two-Way players.

What he’s able to do is remarkable, with Ruth as the only comparable, but let’s not get crazy. Babe hit 358 HR & compiled 71 WAR after age 31, all without any sort of load management. (Ruth didn’t pitch at that time, but odds are against Shosei being able to match Babe’s value from this point on.)

It’s really interesting that we treat him as all around greatest ever even though he’s a DH in 75% of games. Most DHs are dismissed out of hand He pitches 4-5 innings average every 5 or 6 games This is his first truly exceptional pitching season. We’ll see if they shut him down after the AS game

He’s started 110 games since 2018— That’s pretty meh for a starter I just grow weary of the hyperbole of “he’s the GOAT” (remember when it was Mike Trout?) based on 3-4 amazing years

He's gone at least 6 full innings in every game but one (he went 5.0 in a 4-0 win over the Padres). He's just one inning short of being qualified for league leaders. No one's close to his 0.74 ERA.

I honestly don’t think he’d be as unique as this if the US culture wasn’t to stop giving pitchers batting lessons once they’re figured out as pro prospects. A ton of pitchers at the HS level are great hitters. He would be a standout today, but I don’t think he’d be The One Guy.

10 starts and 61 innings pitched , seems he has a problem and can’t pitch past 6 innings. Will his era balloon if he goes deep into the game and is afraid to pitch more?

I have no doubt that he will be in HOF, but the HOFamers already in did there due diligence ing after ing , no DH for them, Alexander once had 28 wins and 31 complete games in a season. Pitched every 4 days. It Just tells me the standards for the HOF have tarnished.

Agree on that. We imagine that those enshrined in the HOF are icons of the sport (Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Alexander, Cobb, Koufax, Bench, Aaron, etc) but not all of them are.
