Riot dog! According to wiki: A riot dog is a stray dog that accompanies street protesters. The term originated during the 2008 Greek riots when a number of stray dogs remained among the protesters even when violent rioting broke out. Famous riot dogs: Loukanikos and Negro Matapacos.

Oh cool I didn't know that! One thing my fave historical fantasy romance series introduced me to was the Regulator Movement in NC prior to the successful revolution...been meaning to dig into that one in my spare, erm, time. Though my TBR pile is rather large ATM...

Unfortunately the Picture isn't a true representation: Crispus Attucks ( c. 1723 – March 5, 1770) of African and Native American descent regarded as the first person killed in the Boston Massacre.... www.boston.gov/news/black-h...

My favorite part of the illustration! No one knows why it's there. One story is that Revere damaged the plate in that area and added a dog to cover it over.

He was making clear the blue coats were the cool people because the dog was on their side. Simple and effective. My shih tzu would be of limited use in war time but he’d certainly want to bark at the enemy.

So did the protestors "instigate violence" or were the Red Coats trigger happy? I like this reference, Not sure I like the implications of titling it "Protesters instigating" Are you saying it was their fault for sticking up for their rights? Or historical fact that they were violent first?

I find the parallels very interesting. bsky.app/profile/b9cc...

Crispus Attucks, a black man, was the first to give his life fighting for American freedom. 255 years later Americans of color are again fighting for their rights to exist. The only people that want this to be a civil war is the far right. This in no way makes us great again.

I agree. Yes it was found in court that they were being threatened by the protesters. But an increased cop presence was the biggest driver. Just like moving the national guard in in the current case. People are going to get mad.

I was this many years old at the Boston Paul Revere celebration when I learned it is entirely possible that the redcoats overheard the screams of "fire" regarding a nearby uncontrolled fire which had broken out, and erroneously engaged the crowd.

Adams defended most of the grenadiers by convincing the jury that the grenadiers were in real danger -asking the jury what they'd do if threatened by a "Molatto man" with a stick. The other victims were wrong for being there with him. Sam Adams called him (Attucks) "the first to die for liberty."

That’s the only way of getting rid of Trump and cure the sick country. Big reforms is needed politically. The weed must be picked and removed. You can’t get around it sadly. It is coming if you like it or not, inescapable at this point.

Well, to be fair they did. They began gathering and were yelling insults, then hurling oyster shells, then rocks. No, shooting them wasn't justifiable, but the colonists weren't just innocent spectators. I do find it ironic that modern day "patriots" would be telling the colonists to just comply

Throwing snowballs escalated to throwing ice balls which escalated to throwing rocks with snow packed around them. Also, it could have been an American who shouted "Fire!" The British commander swore he never gave the order and both sides heard the order.

They did instigate violence but that's not the relevant part here, the relevant part here is that they were totally in the right to instigate violence against the authorities that be

Your point? If you had studied US history in any depth, you would know that almost everyone in that crowd was a British citizen, not just the soldiers. Foreign authority? No, it was British citizens protesting troops sent by their own government to enforce laws in which they had no voice.

aw still believing that BS? behold rich locals refusing to pay defence taxes to protect their ports & sealanes from foreign military, so they wound up The Poors to fight to keep them from having to pay their taxes learn from your mistakes & maybe you’ll actually win something

I take your point (especially WRT Trump), but it is complicated. In the first place it really was parliament, not the king. And secondly, one of the reasons for the revolution was the fear the brits might impose the abolition of slavery.

O men of ICE! if ye but knew The least of the all what bluebirds do, Now in this little godly calm Yoor voice might sing the Future's Psalm— The Psalm of Love with the brotherly eyes Who pardons and is very wise— But mask voice that shouts, high-hoarse with ire, Fire!

They did instigate by throwing stuff at them, although I’m sure the revolutionaries didn’t paint or draw much of that. The problem, still, is that the level of force used in response was totally unjustified
