NEW: Georgia removed nearly 471,000 voters from its rolls last summer — roughly 6% of all the state’s registered voters. Now voting rights groups are suing, arguing the state is illegally hiding records about how the purge was carried out.

Our democracy is under siege, eroding before our eyes. This is a direct continuation of January 6th coup attempt. We shouldn't pretend it's anything else. "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be" - K Roberts

Raffensperger was never trying to protect election integrity. He knew that if people believed there was fraud it would be blamed on him . Trump wanted fraud and in the end state election officials would be blamed.

Besides trying to vote, the way to know if you're purged from voting is if your surname is a slave name like Washington, Jackson, & Jefferson so I don't see how these woke libs can claim it's a secret. Congress already had banks hand over their list of red line zip codes they never loan money to.

It’s way past time to acknowledge we have never had a full democracy in the US. Once we come to that realization, we can work out how to create it.

While the suits are going, Democrats need to be checking in with voters and ensuring they have active & valid registrations. We need both things happening simultaneously. Commit massive resources to this.

Here in Canada, we don’t have stupid things like permanent voter rolls that voters are removed from when they’re still alive by partisan politicians. America, why do you work so hard to subvert democracy?

Notably, about 2 percent of eligible voters die each year, and of course some move away. How does 6 percent compare to other state voter purges? I don't know.

If Republicans spent half as much time campaigning as they do trying to prove voter fraud, they might win an election.

This is the voter suppression playbook that GOP secretary of state Brian Kemp used to defeat Dem Stacey Abrams in the race for governor by under 55,000 votes in 2018. He purged more than 700,000 voters in 2017 – mostly minorities – even though at least half still lived at their registration address.

They do register by precinct, and they have precinct level voting data, and they don’t give a fuck about disenfranchising a few of their own voters as collateral damage.

Overpurging Florida voter rolls in 2000 was also how Republicans stole the election for George W. Bush. Justices Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Comey were young lawyers working for the GOP on the Florida recount at the time. They must recuse themselves this time if it gets back to SCOTUS again.

A reminder George W. Bush “won” the Florida recount in 2000 (and hence the entire presidential election) by just 537 votes because of felony disenfranchisement laws (driven primarily by the racist drug war). Republicans conveniently overpurged Florida voter rolls right before the election.

Way too many states are using this insidious and largely silent tactic. Remedies take time and lead to votes lost while suing, etc. Check your registration a few times EACH year to give yourself time to fix an issue or a purge of your voting rights, if it happens to you. Be vigilant!

How can a “mature democracy“ like 🇺🇸 have such a convoluted and obviously corrupt voter registration system? Even relatively young democracies like Australia, where I live, has automatic registration at age 18. Compulsory voting and ranked choice voting without your 2 party system helps too.
