In a 2016 discussion, Commissioner Baldwin said, dismissing the idea of updating warning systems: "The thought of our beautiful Kerr County having these damn sirens going off in the middle of night, I'm going to have to start drinking again to put up with y'all."

If the idea of a warning system with the purpose of protecting people living in and visiting the area threaten your sobriety it is time to resign. You are clearly not fit to hold any sort of office.

These men are fucking ghouls. A tourist is a guest. Under the honor system they pay lip service to you protect a guest who you have provided hospitality to. I know, I come from one. Risking your guests (who you owe your livelihood to) over ego is monstrous even in their thought system.

Yes, it appears that Kerr County legally could have used ARPA funds on flood warning systems - other communities in the U.S. did. They just didn’t seem to want to. bsky.app/profile/fain...

Some have asked if Kerr County, Texas legally COULD have used its ARPA funds on a flood warning system: this example from New York of a community doing just that seems to indicate they could have. www.mamaroneckobserver.org/post/board-a...

so they bought the cops some new radios? I'm so damn jaded that's the only read i can come away with "first responder emergency radio system" upgrade

"Texas really said we’re going to send you alerts over the same channel we use for flood evacuations and tornado warnings every time a policeman is sad and so everyone stopped listening to them" bsky.app/profile/samt... "when copaganda kills"

"50% of all municipal budgets go to fund guys playing candy crush on duty" "Police solve just 2% of all major crimes" "cops did a work stop, yet crime dropped" "One-third of all Americans killed by strangers are killed by police" 10,000 family dogs killed by police every year (DOJ: "epidemic")

The thing about sirens and locals is that locals will learn to tune out the sirens when they immediately clock nothing is happening. I'm like 1/4 mile from my storm sirens, and they test them at 1 PM on the first Wednesday of the month, so sometimes you hear it and think "right, it's Wednesday."

Similar to the Maui wildfires couple years ago, people asked why the tsunami warning sirens were not used to warn about the wildfire. Most felt it would’ve confused people and actually the sea was safer in Lahaina. If I hear a siren, it’s look up, look down, and look around time.

That was the bit that inspired me to write my post. They literally care so little about what happens to people that they don't know that they refuse money that would help them.

The system they keep talking about that "works" is one where the people that are liked get calls warning them about floods and outsiders? Eh, who cares? That's the obvious subtext of preferring a phone tree system to a siren that would warn everyone.

Texas Republicans during the power grid failures: regulations to require the national anthem at sports games "Texas spent more time fighting LGBTQ civil rights than fixing their power grid. How’d that work out?" "A Texas-size failure, followed by a familiar Texas response: Blame California"

"Texans 17% more likely to be murdered than Californians Texans 34% more likely to be raped earn 13% less and pay 3.8% more in taxes" (overall) Every MSM only mentions the word "crime" right before an election! "Germans call this "a permanent bailout." We just call it "Missouri."

You mean every first Tuesday of the month. Assume different systems/localities are tested differently? In regions of Illinois I’ve lived in I think it was always first Tuesday. Now genuinely curious what others are used to.
