Never mind the scammers, it’s so weirdly unfair and inefficient. There are people doing the work. They know the landscape. They are working to make things better. Help them do it.

I once against my better judgement allowed a local group's money to be given to someone who knew someone in Iraq. A year later, the money could not be got to them and we went with my idea, a reputable agency with boots on the ground. We were lucky the money still existed.

I usually donate to the International Red Cross/Crescent Gaza appeal. They send me emails from time to time updating me. I worry that aid isn’t getting through because of border closures but if anyone is let through it’s usually the Red Cross. But friends donate to other charities which are good.

I’ll note that my brother, who actually works for the International Rescue Committee, always tells me to give money to MSF/DWB - they stretch a dollar better than any other group in the field (I think mostly because the doctors are volunteers). (Obviously I donate to both orgs!)

Even if Mommunism could vouch for her friends and it was 100% legit, giving that person $10,000 just might mean that the price for food in Gaza goes up for everyone, and only those who can suck up to Westerners online get any.

I don’t have a ton of money to give away, but I throw some at MSF when I can.

Potentially doing a lot of heavy lifting. If scammers or worse get money I intended for a family that is desperate to feed their families or get emergency medical care then thats on all of us in the West. My money is already going towards genocide thanks to our governments. So is yours.
