this whole xbox thing feels like a true emperors no clothes moment. there is so obviously no plan, anything announced yesterday is overruled tomorrow, that even reporting the facts feels laughably insufficient.

I’ve had a hypothesis for some years that Microsoft has always been a shitty company and that they essentially lucked out being at the right time and place with Windows and Office. Outside of Azure, I don’t know of anything else that they’ve done well.

hey guys you like halo? we made a whole studio called 343 just to make halo now. and we're thrilled to report that halo studios is making halo now in a complete reboot. furthermore, halo is now being handed to a new team in activision for a new title.

We heard you like Halo. So we’re gonna make a new studio dedicated to Halo. Oh what’s this? That studio was ran poorly? Surely running it back with those same execs will fix everything! Oh it didn’t? Ok. Let’s hand it off to Activision for some reason then. That’ll work! Totally!

Apparently they did that to make themselves a more attractive prospect for another publisher to buy them. Not that it meant anything regardless as MS announced they had a buyer before the deal was actually solid, it seems.

ROFL! Are you joking? They announced that more layoffs were coming months ago. That and what's the tragedy here. Ninja Theory has made some bad games that didn't sell, Double Fine as well. Halo Studios is a disaster that released the worst game in the franchise. What's the loss here?

I remember from some podcast I was listening to where yeah this current Xbox they will make decisions the day of or very close and announce shit there is no prep or long term planning going on they 100% made this decision at the earliest yesterday

This is the second part of the plan they announced at the beginning of the year is it not? Isn’t that kind of the definition of a “plan”? Everyone who thinks that Microsoft should’ve just kept doing what they were doing under Phil is either dumb or works for Sony.

Make Microsoft bend to our will. Buy a refurbished Xbox360 and all the games you've never played, they only cost $5-$20. Play offline (the hardest part I know) Make their sales crash into hell until they stop the foolishness. Even bought the Kinect. Paid less than $300 for everything. No membership

I get it, playing online is addictive, so the addict in you rejects what Im saying completely........ If nobody's buying their new bullshit because everyone's grabbing up the old shit, it shows Microsoft where the real money is AND exposes their need to calm tf down, gamers didnt ask for this shit

calm.tfcalm.tf

other than call of duty and wow i genuinely think the smart move is to assume that any other xbox game thats more than a year away is never coming out. ‘mass layoffs and activision taking over halo’ just doesn’t describe how disastrous and destructive microsoft’s actions have been

microsoft have essentially bought up and bulldozed almost an entire american arts industry as a half-hearted distraction from their main project of trying to monopolise and rent-seek global digital infrastructure and military contracts

The entire western gaming industry is on its last legs and will probably be wiped out entirely when the AI bubble bursts. Japan and China are gonna dominate this industry for the next 20 years All cause Microsoft just kept buying studio after studio

how would the AI bubble bursting not affect japan when the japanese game companies are using AI just as much if not more than the americans?

guys who are hogging ai at bigger levels, banned unions and been eating shit due to monopolies for 100 years nonstop? yeah, im sure theyre about to own aa slop like wolverine by making third drakengard gacha.

We said similar, especially when people were dismissing that maybe they'd not really do anything about the endemic problems at Activision and Blizzard. (Beyond removing Kotick, which at one point they weren't even gonna do, they haven't. *Sighs.*)

I don't know what's more terrifying, that they think they can sell $1000 consoles, $100 games that are made by no one except Bobby Kotick typing "Make me a Call of Duty game" into Grok; or the fact that this might actually work.

I truly believe physint is not coming out, like they made that move for 1 good week (maybe even day) of PR but when it is actually go time to ramp production on that game, Microsoft will also cancel that game especialy afther today.

I got this dreadful feeling that Death Stranding 2 is probably Kojima’s last game. He might be forced into retirement if Xbox cancels both Physint and OD, I just can’t see him going back to Konami after what they did

I think there is a plan but it's greedy and wildly upsetting. When they are done raising everything to the ground... there might also be a plan... but since its coming from the same people who are laying everyone off it will surely be a very terrible plan.

the constant changes and lack of transparency on xbox's end makes it hard to believe anything they say is serious. it's like they're trying to keep the whole thing in a perpetual state of flux to keep investors and analysts off balance.

Kind crazy to me that because of Sonys fumbles, people are praising Xbox helping Kojima and making it seem like Xbox is now the hero. But for real its obviously just a desperate hail mary to gain favour (it worked). They probably would have shut down Kojima themselves if the tables were flipped.

....no? Like, for one, things were pretty alright during the 360 era and it all at least evened out to neutral by the middle of the XB1's life. And second, what MS is doing isnt really causing much of a ripple effect in other studios. This just feels extreme

I think XBLA was a neat way to get indie games in front of an audience who plays on console. And at least to me, the real product in paying for online was moderation. The value prop was that you pay them and reported players would get banned. Kaillera was 10x more toxic than original XBox online
