it’s worth underlining that the amount which a modern live game is not this is directly the result of devs fighting inch by inch, for months if not years, against the guy at every corporation who demands an explanation for why you aren’t doing this at all times

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Calling out #Blizzard for Engagement-oriented Matchmaking (eomm) in #Overwatch. They say they don't do it, but we see the reality. How am I going to 11-1 and then lose 6 in row as top DPS? Pictured: The dramatic difference between rank gain after a promotion and rank loss after a demotion.

I learned one simple truth from Fistful of Frags: if I’m top of my team’s board, we are going to lose the match, plain and simple. I reckon that don’t answer your question none, though. My advice? If you believe you’re getting eommed, log off the game for an hour after your second L. Humans streak

I knew this kind of comment would show up in the thread but people have been claiming neutral (provably in other cases) matchmaking is rigged against them for decades lmao

oh. i thought.. i thought this was just what people said i didnt know it was real. oh.

this is correct but consider that the quoted video is likely by an AI grifter bsky.app/profile/timb...

Heads up, this decompile was also probably done by AI. Not sure how accurate this is in reality. Went to the website of the guy who posted the vid, and he's the co-founder of an AI based coding company

.... You know.... I'm starting to understand people who are wilfully ignorant, who manage to live in an alternate reality. Because two minutes ago I think I'd've been happier not watching that fuckin' video at all, I'm genuinely losing my fucking mind, WHAT DO YOU DO IN *THIS* FUCKIN' REALITY?

I’ve had this thought locked in ever since I read that story like a decade ago about how a shareholder at one of Nintendo’s meetings seriously proposed “you could add micro transactions to make Mario jump!”

a few korean games did implement day-based loadout rentals, don’t think any of them ever really took off, though. for the amount of friction it takes to spend money online, people would rather it be a larger amount for a cooler item or nothing at all. hence, every wedding dress being 19 bucks

i often find myself thinking about the compromises along the way in almost any video game i play. it's depressing, but you can do this with a LOT OF THINGS. tales of phantasia is one that's stuck out in my mind for a really long time. you can truly see the places where gotanda, the writer of the

orignal "tale phantasia" manuscript, fought with namco over the way the story was told. like, i just replayed the first part of this game. cless's hometown is destroyed, he and his best friend's parents are murdered, and then cless and mint get flung into the past to avoid certain death.

you're immediately gripped by this gritty character drama. but then, once you meet klarth, the distractions pile up until you're on the classic Hunt For The Elemental Helpers which doesn't resolve into finding Dhaos until after you've done like 4 dungeons for no real reason.

what sucks is that Moria is super fucking cool and the concepts you run into, like Maxwell, are also really cool. but the pacing falls apart COMPLETELY. i fully believe this is because namco corporate wanted a family friendly balance, a casual rpg people could escape into with cute characters

It's a terrible bargain we have made - we justify the existence of art and games we want to play by the potential for them to make a company money. The fact that people enjoy it is always secondary to suckering them out of their money.

I wish more players realized that there are so many more devs on their side and actually hate this kind of shit.

so what I'm hearing here is that I'm a stupid idiot for having a job instead of writing fucked up evil versions of Facebook games to make a hundred million dollars a month in ad revenue.
