moving over to bluesky from twitter was huge for my mental health because twitter sucked so bad but over the years bluesky has now become pretty much just as bad because well it is also literally just twitter. we did build the demon again to be fair

using this site makes me very anxious. i am hyper-aware of how visible i am, how easy it is to create enemies and upset people with random posts you might not have thought through, which in turn makes you less vulnerable online, which in turn makes you come across as even more standoffish etc

this is more or less why I opted to just completely stop posting. i'm increasingly of the opinion this "type" of social media is basically just evil and there isn't really a safe level of participation? twitter is worse, obviously, but bluesky is still mind poison all the same.

like I'm a Streamer/YouTuber type guy so I already have to deal with people basically inventing fanfiction about me and appearing to be aloof and callous but Having A Timeline at all seems basically designed to give people the strangest and worst impression of who you are as a person?

it reall feels like that. countless times i’ve found someone who seems nice and normal and someone i’d probably get on with great with if i met them just like, lolcow level hate me purely because of how they’ve come across my most annoying posts in the worst context and it’s like ah, well,

yeah social media in general has been terrible for my paranoia and im invisible compared to you. but theres always a chance anything i say even things i didnt think would be an issue get blown up. and then i cant post on the site with my friends again.

and like it has made me more withdrawn. i used to say all kinda stuff and talk about anything im doing and now i triple think whether to post about that movie i saw yesterday and then i dont because i imagine the most annoying outcome and its better to not post. now i just reply to friends lol.

living in the panopticon makes you absolutely insane. my only experience with this was being a moderately successful fanfic writer and even that drove me to almost completely disconnect from the community. was overthinking every single thing I wrote or even just chatted about on public discords

so the timeline becomes a place for only your most strongly held opinions or irreverent jokes, sometimes both at the same time, and combined with the constant pressure to weigh in on daily discourse it leads to an environment that naturally cultivates a vibe of appearing callous and superior

which is all to say i don't want to be that. i don't think i am that, but i do think a feed where i post "gay gerard way be like have you fucked a dude and gave head" next to angry communist politics next to video game opinions maybe 3 people on earth agree creates a strange impression of me lmao

I feel this so much. I really, really, really don't like who I am if you look at my feed on this platform, but also it's what the platform facilitates. It's what it pushes you to be!

I don't want to be on here. I want to be anywhere else There's nowhere left to go. And I say that as someone on mastodon and a bunch of other places. If I want to try and show the stuff off I do to people, there's nowhere else to go.

for what it's worth your posts showing up on my feed usually feel like a fun respite from a lot of the rest of the site. I've deffo felt the overall tone of this place leaning more twitter over time

there was a time when being quite good at this made people more connected and employable and i think we have reached a tipping point a long time ago that the exact opposite is true of both

the jobs that this used to get you have been wiped off the face of the earth by the death star laser. "but surely that means people no longer have to be personal brands" haha, you'd think, but,

I hate to say it, cause I wouldn't be following if I didn't overall find your posts entertaining and interesting, but yes every once in a while you come off much like you described not wanting to come off as. I don't think it's your fault, I think it's the platform environment, as you described.

In turn I think this reply itself will make me seem like I'm here to be incendiary and rile you up, but if anything I only mean to point out that I think you're hitting the nail on the head precisely here.

Okay but I follow you specifically for the funny gay parody lyrics immediately followed by game opinions nobody with a normal life can keep up with. It’s part of the fun.

You guys really need to: 1. Take a break from the Internet. 2. Take some responsibility. No one else can make you the person you want to be. If it's so hard because you are too obsessed with likes, you really should get help.

I think for me I've accepted that twitterlikes are a place where I'm never really going to be able to express the full breadth of my emotions due to its limited nature. I have to talk conversationally as well. and a site like this just isn't going to be for that ever

This is going to sound like me being sarcastic but I mean it very sincerely - this might be less of an over here or over there issue and more just a natural side effect of being one of the best posters of all time on a platform that's populated enough for that to be a problem
