Bound to fail. Hardly anyone is even aware of this and most people can not decide to show up for work. They will be fired. Democrats need to concentrate on voter registration and making sure those registrations are iron clad.

I don't understand how boycotting small businesses that barely make enough to scrape by is helpful. Can someone explain why hurting them helps the big picture? Like, is the taco truck down the street going to benefit? I'm all for protest and making statements, but I don't understand the logic here.

I’m in. I’ve communicated my plans with my clients and I won’t be shopping. Being defeatist won’t help anything. Whining won’t help. But showing up and not being part of the active economy for one day in a coordinated effort can show support for the protest against what is happening. Non-violence.

A) I'll believe it when I see it B) one day is not enough C) the American public can barely show up to no kings protests in every town centre in significant numbers D) trump is America manifest and a low impact "day of action" is more likely to prove that than actually be effective E) good luck

#YesWeCan #SíSePuede (trying to overcome all the naysayers in the replies). All movements build on previous actions. Let’s make this as big and positive and unmistakable as possible…so the next one is ever larger. #MayDay or bust.

Is this really Capitalism? There were 200,000,000 motor vehicles in the US in 1995. Marx used the word 'depreciation' 100+ times in Das Kapital. When have you heard an Economist discuss the annual depreciation of Durable Consumer Junk? Marx & Adam Smith never saw a Planned Obsolescence Economy.

Dear Americans, do you know that May 1st is traditionally Workers day in large parts of the rest of the world? A day for mass protests, for national action, a revolutionary day. It's like it only exists when it involves you !

No, I assume the original idea did come from there, but I have yet to see any acknowledgement of it as such in any of the many posts about May 1st action in the US. That was kinda my point 😺

Literally anyone can participate in this - if you can’t skip work, simply don’t buy anything on 5/1 (tomorrow)! Buy it today or on the weekend instead. Worried about the impact on small local businesses? Buy double from them today or on the weekend.

Tomorrow is May Day and i expect it will be the largest demonstration for workers in world history - virtually every city and hamlet will be participating from New York to Tokyo! The message will be stop war Now!

Not everyone is able to do it all. I know what I can do, which is more than many because I am retired. No kids in school or to feed. No longer a caregiver. Allow those who can to do as much as they can without guilt. We must support each other so please give grace. Thanks (I am off my soapbox).

Ronald Reagan tried to make fun of us with "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" but that's my eight hours a day five days a week reality. Refusing to shop, that I can do. But in my case, refusing to work hurts people.

Sure, those who are privileged enough to stay home without losing wages or their job, go ahead. Performative nonsense that feels like doing something, but impacts nothing.

RISE UP....ON MAY 1ST (MAY DAY)....DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! SAVE YOUR MONEY. IT IS YOUR RIGHT. MAYBE WE CAN ELIMINATE THE GOVERNMENT, THE WAR, AND THE TRUMP KLAN.... DO NOT SHOP, BUY GAS, AVOID WORK. KEEP THE KIDS HOME. DO WHAT YOU MUST, NOT SOMETHING YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO.

One day??? We need to do MORE if we are to actually "disrupt" anything. Some may not be able to, and many things can't be stored indefinitely, but I stocked up well before the Trumpocalypse even started, and haven't bought anything but essentials ever since. I refuse to be part of this "economy".

Unions are restricted by (1935 Wagner Act revised by) 1947 Taft-Hartley Act, right to work laws, and the hardship of getting enough votes to strike (membership is ~50% red hats) UAW prez Shawn Fain has asked all unions to end contracts 5.1.28 so that they can legally strike. IMO it’ll be too late.

And only 14% of US workforce is in a union. Most mid level workers it would not be a strike but a “ sick-out” and low wage workers just lose pay or lose their jobs and they are already in a tight spot, so it is unkind to ask them to sacrifice more.

Sadly I kinda need to go food shopping tomorrow, taking my cat to the vet today and probably burn up my money from my previous paycheck and cant wait for saturday. I get paid tomorrow so kind of stuck here.

I canceled my doctor's appointment tomorrow. My dog has a grooming appointment. It's not an establishment it's just a person who comes to your house and grooms your dog. I told her I will pay cash only I don't want to charge it through the banking system. Is that okay do you think?

I hope I don't need a plumber tomorrow.😬Last time was in Oct. & he had to snake the thingy which cost A LOT!!! Turned out to be hair and twigs that got into the sewer system. Cost....Hundreds!

I’m a bodybuilder. One day of lifting won’t change my body. It’s everyday of consistent and boring actions that lead to getting on stage. I work 2 years for one day. I’m not saying this to brag, but everyday we need to take boring and consistent steps, and then one day we can celebrate 🎉 i

That is okay…I’m not an official, but I have read tht cash payment at small local businesses is fine, & it feels right. Small businesses r suffering bec of current admin’s choices, we need 2 support thm…

I just actually texted her to see if we should maybe postpone it to the next week or so cuz it's still chilly here at night and they're going to be like shaving her down pretty short. Our house gets very chilly and it's her first grooming. I'll see what she thinks.

Congress is simply too corrupt to protect us.

mr nobody@mr-nobody-01.bsky.social

Enough! Congress is simply too corrupt to protect us. We are not a democracy We are not a republic We are not practicing capitalism Congress did it Who in Congress can show us their books and who needs the right to remain silent? Jail the criminals Thank the rest Fix the bugs Replace them all

My kid is going to high school, and I’m going to a much needed first physical therapy appointment, but that’s all we are doing. Shopping for the week was done yesterday and nothing of major import needs to be purchased tomorrow.

A single day of protest doesn’t do shit. Go for your walkabout, but if you aren’t boycotting every day, involved in your community, helping others… you are not doing shit. The economic disruption has to be sustained to be effective. Sacrifices need to be made daily not quarterly.

I Respectfully disagree. We need all the above that you describe. It all helps. The GOP elected officials visibly see this resistance in everywhere including small towns in red states & they are shaken. They stopped having Town Halls. Networking, DEM oganizing, etc. & we need it all + protests

Your definition of a perfect response is not helpful. That’s not how it happens anywhere. Some people have children to feed and care for. Some are sick. Some are afraid. Critical mass doesn’t mean everyone every day. It does mean all helping as they can.

So many excuses. No one said to starve or forego meds or housing. Take care of critical shit BUT also… engage in targeted boycotts, build your community, help your neighbors… literally what I’ve said from the beginning… sustained economic impact now or pure authoritarianism later. Life is scary

There is no returning to the status quo. The quicker folks decide to help save the nation the quicker that will actually happen. Waiting for everyone else to step up is not gonna work. Folks are gonna have to put their big boy and big girl pants on and sacrifice… for others…. The horror….

We are past the time for placating. Folks need to live in the reality of the situation not some bullshit made up one where doing a quarterly walkabout with zero follow through is applauded. Folks need to rise to the occasion or deal with being called out on it.

I feel that exhaustion in my bones. Folks are refusing to live in reality and are trying to get back to a status quo that will never exist again because they thrived in the status quo. The privilege is what makes it so they have to be affected personally in order to care. It’s coming… for all of us

To all thone saying this does nothing, then YOU do something. y'all were saying the same about protesting. But between the first #50501 in February and the last No Kings 3, we are seeing momentum. MSM ignored us, then tried to call us paid protestors. By 3 they had to cover us. This is a start.

After the last opinion from SCOTUS, people should be getting very prepared for several day protests. They are not waiting for us to get good at it, they are entirely disregarding our voices! #removetheregime

Sounds strange, but it's time for Americans to boycott American-made products. Trump has no regard for rule of law, but the one thing that can reel him in is the economy. Even just a selective boycott from Republican states and Trump-aligned companies (all those that bent the knee) would be huge.

Watching everything unfold outside of America, I'm amazed at the lack of legitimate pushback is happening. Seems like a lot of people have been pacified by tech and social media to care enough to do much, despite this administration being apparently incredibly unpopular.

Stop producing for the elites. Talk with your neighbors, we can survive the hardship of not working. They can't survive calls from their share holders. End capitalism now.

You need 3.5% of US population to turn out to have a Major effect. Get the fools on the hill to notice. It's great what you are doing; just needs to explode in size to 10 Million. Good luck🤞🏻👍🏻

Yes, skip work, get fired, lose all income and health insurance. Most people can't do that. One day is not a strike. I lived in France. I've seen strikes. They are highly organized by aggressive unions. France has a social safety net. We have nothing like that. We need a total restart.

That is the problem. You can take a day off for a protest, or do it on a Saturday, but to get their attention, we NEED a nationwide strike. The issue is, we can't do it for the reasons you stated and the ones with the power and money, KNOW IT. In France they rotate between union groups every week.

Collective bargaining covers about 10% of US workers. It coves 99% of French workers, even though only about 10% of workers there are actually union members. We need a cultural shift that will take years, maybe decades, to implement. I don't see anybody starting it. I don't know where to start.

An effective strike shuts down an entire sector or region until people just can't stand it anymore. That's only possible if strikers can survive for weeks or longer financially and don't have to worry about losing their jobs and benefits. Our system is broken, and one day off won't fix it.

I am completely in favor of a general strike, but people won't participate if they don't have some sort of safety net. Our system is designed to crush labor movements and always has been. It's not something we can fix in one day. It will take years of work.

People always want a quick fix, and we all have a role to play. Some of us may just be planting seeds for the next generation. It took them 50 years to overturn roe. I might take the rest of my life doing this work to get the ERA.

Not just big companies. Almost ALL businesses exploit labor. Even your favorite small business is not paying its employee a living wage. If you can't afford to pay a living wage, you don't get to have employees and if that puts you out of business, GOOD! Change the entire system now.

Americans, do what you can, no matter how small. Together we are strong. If you are someone who doesn’t want to participate, that is your choice, but don’t discourage anyone else from doing what you are not willing to do. Please keep your opinions to yourself.

I don’t start my new job till Saturday so I will not be buying anything anywhere. I have 5 grown daughters and 6 grands. Of course if my daughters were school age I would support their walkout. And if my grands walkout I will support them as well ❤️

While I understand the point here, many will not participate. Calling out of work could be unacceptable not only financial but morally…. Nurses, doctors, firemen and women, police officers, day care employees, pharmacy’s, grocery stores,….and many others….

One day will not be disruptive. It won't even make a statement. It'll be like fourth of July for fuck sakes. Y'all claim you want change but you're unwilling to put in the fucking effort. A general strike needs to be more than one fucking day you damned yuppies otherwise there is no point!!!

We have the power. Get Loud ! The working class owns all the power, yet we have no representation. We've all had rather enough of ol' drumpfy, his greedy family and minions, and the rethuglycans; time for our own demands; get loud; then get louder! bsky.app/profile/unte...

So, what do we want? When do we want it? We, the people, have waited long enough, and we have had enough. Call Congress; DEMAND immediate change. theuntenuredprofessor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/pos...

Why not? He is not much better! Killed his ex wife. Cheated on his wife. Enriches himself and his family while 'representing the country'. Lots of wrong friends, thinks he is better than the rest. Also thinks he is the highest king in the world. Brother is a child rapist and friend of Epstein.

Got any proof re ‘killed his ex wife and thinks he’s the highest king in the world’? No doubt he cheated on his ex wife and his brother was a friend of Epstein. No proof yet his brother is a child rapist though.

People need to do what they can. I’m marching, but I also stopped Amazon Prime, ended subscriptions to NYT & WaPo, try to buy local and upped my contributions to Public Radio and Democracy Docket. It’s gonna be a long rebuild from this current nightmare.

The People’s Sick Day is TOMORROW - Friday 5/1 (MAYDAY). We’re all coming down with COVID or measles or something. If you can’t stay home, BUY NOTHING. If you can’t buy nothing BUY LOCAL.

He doesn't care until it affects his donors and this definitely won't affect them at all. This one day shit these people be doing is making them all look fucking stupid. Back during Vietnam people camped out on the fucking Whitehouse lawn in protest every fucking day!! This one day shit is a joke

JOIN THE NATIONAL BOYCOTT, NEVER FORGET, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DID THIS AND FOR AS LONG AS YOU KEEP PAYING THEM THEY ARE GOING TO KEEP FUCKIGN YOU!

I haven't seen a word about this anywhere but Bluesky sadly, so I am not sure how effective this is going to be. I am staying home from work and was originally going to keep my kids home from school, but of course all of their big projects are due that day.

Get out to be seen and heard. No work, no school, no shopping! Attend an event near you!! Time is running short, so May Day is a great time to start fighting the nearly complete fascist takeover of this country. Or you can pretend it can't happen here, or maybe ignore it and it will go away!
