Heh, we figured mute would be good enough to keep you gremlins satisfied for like a month or two. Gonna start work on blocks next week

Oh yeah, we totally get it. We (incorrectly) assumed that people who others want to block wouldn’t make it into the site while things were invite only

this is not true — jeromy was not here for the decision to do mutes and not blocks. the team was just 4 people then, and we did mutes and not blocks because the federation architecture was not finished, and blocking requires cooperation across all entities in a network

i block someone on my server. ok. where does that information get stored? just my server? then other servers don’t know to respect it. ok, i publish it then. what if the other server doesn’t listen? what if there’s services beyond servers? (there are)

what if i don’t want my blocks to be public? what do we do if an aggro server refuses to respect my block? we had to answer all these questions, about an architecture that was not settled. it was simply not possible on the time constraints we had with 3 engineers.

we worked the week between christmas and new year to get mutes and basic moderation functions in to prioritize safety before we even got to 1k users. what you’re seeing now is the effects of unexpected hype/growth overtaking us. if you cannot deal without blocks, come back later. this is a beta.

we’re a small team, working as hard as we can, juggling multiple priorities to build a usable social app at the same time as a decentralized social protocol. we chose to do this hard mode (both protocol and product) so we could show, not tell, that the AT Protocol works. thanks for kicking the tires

we are human and need sleep. so bear with as we implement blocks (a week or two? juggling), along with sandbox-mode federation to test it all out. if you code and want to help, apply for a job. you will work intensely hard with us, but you may help remake the social web. come if you want to ride.

Don’t look for perfection, accept shitpost the way it is born, with all its imperfections. The typos is what makes it unique and beautiful ⭐️❤️

You’re all doing great I think people need to remember it is a beta still. Or they need to understand what beta means. I’m enjoying this place a lot. You’re doing great!

Kudos to you and your entire team. You folks are doing the lords work 🙏🏾. No but seriously, thanks for letting us be a part of building the plane while it’s flying so to speak. We appreciate y’all!

is there a plan in place to prevent repeat offenders (e.g. racist / Nazi accounts) from interacting with me regardless of hiding? The idea that a Nazi account can be flagged / hidden, but still able to comment on and promote my posts amongst their crew wouldn’t be great

hey jay and team: just want to tell you you’re doing phenomenal. especially for being a small team. there’s so much for you guys to do and you’re handling it with a ton of grace and thought. ❤️

I never wanted a job so bad before. I’m actually polishing my knowledge to apply soon. Can’t imagine how chaotic was these past days/weeks. You all deserve a more normal schedule. Keep it up

Hey! first of all thanks and congratulations. It must not to be easy to do this with such a small team. it's already possible to create my owned servers to connect to bluesky network? Thanks!

Take a beat & get some rest. The excitement is thick and frothy here, and whether you all take a break and sleep for 48 hours or burn yourself out for 48 hours it still will be. It's a good sign that people WANT there to be growth on a good foundation...but you need rest and a clear head to do it

People always complain on how much they work as devs, but still being completely nonsense with another devs, you are all doing a great work people must hold on their anxiety for new features, the features will arrive when the job gets done.

I completely understand that you need time to implement the blocks and test them out in sandbox mode to ensure everything runs smoothly. It's important to prioritize getting enough sleep and rest as well. Thank you for keeping us informed, and I look forward to seeing the updates once they're ready

paul last weekend, to me: “i haven’t left my bed all day” me: “but… i saw PR’s from you, and you were on the app” paul: “… pull requests from bed are my form of self-care” paul is actually logging off this saturday, everyone remember to leave him alone for a full 24hrs.
