Here’s my conspiracy theory about Trump and Canada. Trump is damaging the relationship with Canada as a pretense to reject any calls for support when Russia decides to militarily incur into Canada’s Arctic border.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We don't need anything from Canada, and yet it costs up $200b in subsidy to keep Canada afloat. So when I say they should be a state, I mean that. I really mean that ... some people don't have the cards."

As promised, in light of the WaPo report of Everglades camp detainees being swarmed by mosquitoes in the shower and unable to sleep at night due to being bitten, I want to briefly address concentration camp history and mosquitoes. I won't be comprehensive but will give a few examples. [1/17]

So CBS is cancelling the Late Show, which regularly skewered Donald Trump just a week or so after its parent company agreed to pay a bribe to Donald Trump to get its merger approved with a company run by the son of one of Trump's biggest donors/supporters. Nothing to see here.

I am at an event in Los Angeles and true to the administration’s claims it is violent, bloody, profane, and full of murderers and dangerous evil people. I mean it’s a group of middle-aged guys playing D&D but it’s definitely all of that stuff.

The Israelis are calling this a "preemptive" strike. Whether you agree or disagree with this attack, these are not - from what we know tonight - "preemptive" strikes. The Israelis are using that word for a reason. Read on. /1

Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

Imagine America during the Korean War in 1950 telling the embattled southern forces after Pyongyang’s massive invasion that both sides “need to put down their weapons and build a better North and South Korea.” Trump is acting as a de facto Russian ally. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Trump’s sputtering response to Harvard standing up to him is yet another reason why institutions should refuse to bend the knee. He’s a paper tiger, unable to argue his own case.

This.

I have a feeling that Miller is single-handedly stopping the admin from just getting this guy back. From a legal POV it would be better for the government’s case if they can show the ability to correct error. But Miller is pathological about getting brown people out and not letting them in

7. It was Johnson's decision to bring this to the floor. It was also Johnson's decision to include other legislative items for the week in that rule. It was Emmer's job to count the votes before bringing it to the floor. And this cavalcade of mediocrities failed.

“The administration is playing a dirty game of chicken here. They are betting that Goldberg and the Atlantic’s staff are sufficiently responsible that [the administration] can lie with impunity…But that’s not how classified information works…The Atlantic should thus release the full text thread.”

This is why @hakeemjefferson.bsky.social and @schumer.senate.gov are wrong for what’s going on. How can they stop Elon’s dismantling while accepting checks from his lobbying firm?

Two Republican senators told me tonight this vote shows they can execute the same strategy again — cut Democrats out of the negotiations on a gov’t funding bill, pass it thru the House, and expect Senate Dems to back down and not filibuster it. “We liked it over here,” one said.

Senator @murray.senate.gov knew this was gonna happen, and I hope she shows some leadership by calling Schumer out publicly.

I dunno, dude. Looks like the GOP is pretty fucking happy you just caved and gave them exactly what they wanted, while giving up the only point of leverage you had to stop them. Your political instincts expired a decade ago. Move aside already.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk want a shutdown to destroy vital government services faster. It would be a disaster. And we have to alert everyone how much pain it would cause the American people. From my interview on @allinwithchris.bsky.social:

3. Gillibrand is right—Republicans plan on making it very, very painful for Democrats if there is a shutdown, and Gillibrand is now overseeing the DSCC, which means she’s responsible for all the Senate Democratic candidates running in this cycle.

Hey @cantwell.senate.gov, your DC voicemail box is full, and your constituents are trying to make sure you get this message!

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121
