the "funny" thing is these tariffs and USAID impacts are just the orchestra warming up we haven't even begun to see the downstream cumulative concussive impact of gutting consumer protection, public safety oversight, or the dismantling of the social safety net

Rep. Jason Smith dismisses farmers in his state who are getting stiffed by the US government not fulfilling contracts: "Right now it's a little bit disruptive, but that's what this administration promised whenever they were coming to Washington is that they would be disruptive."

Every one of these clowns needs to be primaried by an ethical Republican. Surely there are a few sane GOP folks against foregoing the rule of law for an authoritarian clown and the world's richest man.

I know MAGA Is a cult and the U.S. is awash in propaganda and shitty journalism, but I have a hard time believing the GOP will have the competency to spin and dodge their way out of the coming backlash to this carnage especially given how many enemies they're keen on making

people are mistaking this for me saying there won't be permanent, potentially fatal damage to the country all I'm saying is there will be a backlash and a reckoning

Hope you are right but many of those pendulum corrections cost a lot of lives to achieve. The longer it takes the more it costs. When it corrects it better cleave all of the perpetrators cuz no one needs them left around.

they are not ready because they truly don't understand that their existence has been been built on the backs of the rest of us; eliminating this system will only have one result: massive bloodshed.

Dems really need to get comfortable moving past high prices and straight up saying "the reason why people are dying from botulism and planes are crashing is because Trump is waging war with 70 years of progress and he doesn't care that it will kill you and your family."

yeah they need to be blunt here as the failures happen I'd like to think they won't drop an obvious home run for messaging, but, well....

once Trump's health starts to fail the GOP civil war as they try to duplicate his success (probably impossible given he was propped up by television for a decade) will be highly entertaining

You have to assume that Musk is being set up as a giant human shield. It’s unlike Trump to let anyone take the credit, yet he’s all too happy to let Musk be the face of these cuts. When the pendulum swings back there’s a bewigged South African in the way.

I agree, and I would go even further: I think this disaster has the potential to catastrophically destroy the GOP People never voted for this, Donald Trump isn’t that popular, and at the end, he will make economic conditions way worse instead of bringing down inflation A recipe for a bloodbath

their excuse will be “Biden destroyed the country, we had to make all these cuts to save America” without ever explaining what was so bad with the world’s strongest economy.

The way that they're working to consolidate their control of the media, coupled with the push to toss out NYT v. Sullivan, has me worried that they're going to have better luck controlling the narrative in the future. We really need federal anti-SLAPP laws soon.

They've been playing a ratchet game. If there are elections and they lose 1-2 chambers and/or the WH, they are confident that it won't be by enough to allow the damage they caused to be fixed. They stop up the works and refocus their blame propaganda until they get another chance. The ratchet clicks

some of us thought the same after 2020 election...that we had ridden ourselves of this stain, but it came back worse than ever. i dont have much confidence or faith that this country will turn heel.

It’s of little matter to the architects of this sinister class war. They are looking to ensure unending power, privilege & wealth for themselves & their ilk. There is no concern about the quality of life for the rest of us-the working class, the poor, the vulnerable & sick, the elderly. #thepeasants

Yeah it’s about to get really rocky. I hate accelerationism but it seems like that’s where we’re at. MAGA only deals in pain so hopefully when MAGA starts feeling the pain they are causing they’ll back down

the propaganda will hold for a while, but ultimately it will break under the pressure of obvious first hand experience I'm very curious where that point is and how long it will take

Full agree. Personally a little terrified as well. Disaffected maga has a potential for violence. There will be massive amounts of disaffected people armed to the teeth suffering from ego collapsing cognitive dissonance. Hard to imagine what the future looks like, I try to have hope

all I can say is I'm happy I live up here in a heavily armed progressive haven protected by a mountain range with ample clean drinking water

Dictators thrive in poverty/unhealthy countries. For the Former President to thrive HE/MAGA/GOP must crush our economy and healthcare to be on par with countries like Putin's Russia. I.E.: Ya gotta crush your citizens. 😠

Dems better be cataloguing every bad outcome and be relentless about shoving it in our face 24/7 like the MAGAts do with things like Laken Riley. (Her parents are fucking gross to ride with Тяцмр & use her murder to fuck up America.)

The administration promised to be disruptive. Disruptive in this case meaning disrupting the livelihood of farmers. Throwing the entire food industry into chaos. It worked for Stalin, it worked for Mao, it worked for Pol Pot - literally starve your people to death.

Meanwhile on my FB feed I have some MA residents complaining to Gov Healey about electric prices (which are, indeed, totally nuts this year). Trump voters, all. Complaining to their Dem Governor (for whom they didn't vote). Demanding energy price regulation. Make. It. Make. Sense...

yep. there's just dozens of chained issues that are all going to bite them on the ass they genuinely weren't smart enough to think any of this through

Trump/DOGE/Musk/GOP are firing tens of thousands of seasoned, highly trained professionals that work to protect us, the working class & the environment. They are not lower-level bureaucratic clerks. They are scientists/public health experts, bank regulators, consumer protection experts ...etc.
