The media response to fascism shouldn't be giggles, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. If you care about functional journalism and the truth, the response should be active, outward revulsion and hostility. You don't share a cocktail with fascism, you destroy it. Else there is no journalism.

The US arming Israel when they are exterminating journalists should have been enough to turn the press away from the enemies of both news and free speech. Fascist takeover of networks and papers should have been enough. Lawsuits against news orgs should have been enough, etc. Name and shame.

Serious question from Europe: are Americans generally ok with the fact so many ‘journalists’ are seriously well-connected, often very rich, nepo babies? Jenna Bush, Willie Geist, Luke Russert, Ronan Farrow, Anderson Cooper, Chris Cuomo, Meghan McCain, Mika Brzezinski, to name just a few.

no, they're increasingly hostile to it. Trust in journalism is at an all time low. But all the monied interests are motivated to create a lazy infotainment simulacrum that's increasingly getting worse. So a lot of people are shifting their attention to influencers or newsletters.

This is true for a segment of Americans who aren’t naive; I suspect a large population of non-MAGAts are unaware of how bad everything is and just presume Trump isn’t _that_ bad and things are mostly normal

The thing that gets me is losing the comedian. It was always over-chummy, but there was at least some truth to power element; you knew W had to sit there and listen to someone say that to his face. Now? No dissent, no critique, no opposition will be permitted.
